This has been a good year at Cheyenne School Despite expel imental changes necessitated by a growing student body and the loss of our beloved Dr Shaw we still have managed to keep the old and to add new and valuable activities to our program The Christmas activities were once again filled with ing out into the community for the enjoyment of all Our athletic teams, although not so consistently in the winning columns as in previous years learned through ex perience and from the loyal support of the student body that the spirit makes the game and the ultimate goal is fair play and a humble pride in a Job well done The scholastic record of the school has again been the hmh lig t of the year Many of our semors have been ac ceptedin the top colleges of the country, some on scholastic scholarships and aids The student council is to be com mended for its fine Job in scheduling this program And EDITORIAL Itis the sincere hope of The Junior Class that The Pow- Wow of 1952 will serve as a record of all that the seniors have worked and strived to create throughout their past years at Cheyenne Mountain School. lt can be seen, looking into the past year, that the Seniors have fulfilled to their utmost the standards of Cheyenne Mountain School both tn scholarship and sportsmanship Not only in these ways but in many others have they made Cheyenne a bettei place for both faculty and students The Senior Class of 1952 has set a high goal for the students who will be following in their footsteps With these thoughts well in mind, The 1952 Pow Wow is dedicated to The Seniors most important our faculty has once again proven them selves worthy members of the Cheyenne family by keeping the well being of our students foremost in their minds, they have blended happiness and learning the key to the spirit of Cheyenne School Those of us who have been in the school during its rapid thing that has made the school an integral part of our being lt1s inevitable perhaps that with the ever growing numbers some of our most precious traditions will disappear We must not think of these as lost, for it is only natural that some activities fitting to a small school might not serve the same purpose in a larger school Some traditions must be altered and even changed, if we are to keep the school we know and love But always together as students, teachers and superintendent we must strive to keep the high spiritual and moral values that have always been synonymous with the name of Cheyenne School JOHN S CHAMNEY . ' . . . . good cheer , confined not just to our own domain, but reach- growth, have feared the loss of that intangible some-- R ,faq 5353 ,J 2, Wim wg Ak gy , f ,'mi5,5 wi QWOAG X 5 H f ff . Why do boys just have to kiss? No matter what face no matter what name Alone with a girl they re all the same' While riding along the road so dark Their strongest desire is just to park Maybe he likes the lipstick taste Or maybe he has some time to waste But time is like air, it's warm and free When boys are on a necking spree' And when the wrestling match is done You wonder just who really won Your lipstick is gone or smeared a lot Your swell hairdo is just about shot! And in the dark he looks so queer With lipstick smeared from ear to ear. I'd like just once to meet a boy Whose company I could enjoy, A boy who could demand respect Simply because he didn't neck. BOY'S ANSWER The answer girls is simply this It's you who make us want to kiss You spend an hour for a new hair To win a date and flirt and stew You throw us the darndest warmest glance Until us boys don't have a chance And praise and flirt and look so sweet Dry ice would melt if you turned on the heat With luscious lips and painted nails You trap us unsuspecting males And so we fall and like it too Just what you planned for us to do But if a boy won't kiss and neck You say Oh well what the heck. He's moma s little lambie pie. You can't get thrills from such a gu So girls don't start to foul us boys To make us stop turn off your poise The boys you get will neck with you, Simply because you want them to wifijwfzikw fx' C X-:U 52 +s '5 H., WW egigggffgggb if ?5 ? JOHN S, CHAMNEY Chief When we talk of the number of students in Cheyenne School, people shudder at the thought of how large the school is today compared to what it was just three or four years ago. Those of us who were here then and who are now members of the large school, have been hoping against odds that Cheyenne Schoolwill not, because of its numbers, slip into the rut of the ordinary run of schools. Traditions that make Cheyenne School are ever clung to, with the hope that numbers will not de..- stroy the spiritwhich built the school, If you will look back closely at the various activities of the year, both academic and social, you will find that even with the increased participation we have not lost any of the real spirit of Cheyenne School. In fact, many of our new students have taken a firm position in the leadership inthe schooland have offered many helpful suggestions for doing things the Cheyenne way onalarg- er scale, Never before have we had so many students on our Ranger list. This year over twenty-five per cent of the high school students have received honor standing. Of this number, twenty per cent have been in the school less than two years. This is a fine record and one that all may be proud of. Cur social activities this year were well attended. The Christmas Dance and Pat's Pile Pic- nic were tops in my book, the latter proving that numbers have little to do with the failure or suc- cess ofa project. Next year the school has a great deal to look forward to . The new building has made it pos- sible to completely segregate the grade school from the high school and thus solve a problem which has increased with every new student. The student body is to be commended highly for their un- derstanding and cooperation with this problem of crowding, and can now look forward to more room in the halls, more frequent use of the auditorium and gym, as well as increased efficiency in the various services in the school. Iwould like to take this opportunity to express my thanks to the faculty and staff who have been so understanding and cooperative during this year of growth. May they, with me, look forward with great satisfaction to the enlarged facilities of next year. lt has not been easy for any of us, students and teachers alike, but fine cooperation has helped relieve the tension of the situation and will make the reward just that much more appreciated when the new plans are completed. SEVENTH GRADE The seventh grade, or the frosh of the upstairs, had a picnic for their first social activity. It was held in Cheyenne Canyon. Different than the picnic held by the eighth grade, the sun was shining. This helped the picnic to be a fun-filled event. The enrollment of the seventh grade has grown to 50 this year. Jeremy Hillhouse served as the President of his class, while Nancy Harris held the position of vice-president. The secretary of the class was Meredith Hall and the treasurer was Marka Webb.
