Student Council To train responsible students to make their own laws and enforce them. and to settle problems of in- terest to all the memlicrs of the school. the student council meets whenever an occasion or incident makes necessary a decision or solution of importance. The student council functions as the heart of the student liodj' for Cheyenne high school. The history of the council dates from 1923 when the first council wa organized. Representatives from all cluhs and the class officers comprise the organization. The council has sponsored a number of mixers after games during' the year, hut their most important jolm has lmcen the settling of various difficulties such as the elimination of excess waste paper in the halls. Girls Athletic Association For all girls who are interested in sports. there is an honorary organization promoting tournaments in softball. volleyball. tennis, ping pong. and basketball. For every tournament played. each player receives fifty points if her team is the winning team. forty points for second place. and thirty points for any other team. Points are awarded for hiking. dancing. swimming. Cother than in the class periodl bowling, and playing games that give exercise. Two points are given for each hour of any of these sports. Each person must have at least fifty points before she can be accepted as a member. She is eligible for membership whether a sophomore. junior, or senior. Two initiatious are held each year. Other honors are awarded the girls as they acquire more points. For two hun- dred twenty-five points, she will receive an arrowhead emblem, for four hundred forty points, a G.A.A. pin, or seven hundred fifty points. the letter and for one thousand points, a sweater. In the two iuitiations this year, there were thirty-five new members who were really shown through their paces. During the term, the G..-XA. has sponsored a splash party. a Yale-Harvard basket- ball ame laved at ni ht, and an auction sale to raise monev for the or anization. The sale . 8 . This or- ganization, which has increased to a membership of eighteen, has given many talented students an opportunity to advance in the journalistic field. To become a member, one must be in the upper third of his classes, and held a responsible position or has done outstanding work on the newspaper or yearbook. Dick Wilson. and Jim Godfrey highly rated Bulldogs invaded the Redmen's domain, and when the evening of play was over they returned home licking their wounds, to tell the citizens of North Platte of the 44 to 13 beating they had taken. Six days later. on a bright and sunny Saturday afternoon, the Tribe met its only real competition of the year. Colorado's state champs. the Ft. Collins Lambkins entered Ft. XVarren Bowl to do battle with the Indians. And what a battle it turned out to be. NVhen the gun sounded, ending the game, Cheyenne was oii the long end of a scant 7 to O score. The next tilt was scheduled as one of the main events on the high school athletic calendar. Homecoming against Casper. And what was heralded as one of the best clashes of the year turned out to be a hopeless massacre, as the Indians pushed their arch-rivals, the Casper Mustangs all over the field. The final score- 38 to 0. On October 12th the Indians journeyed to Alliance, Nebraska, determined to take revenge for the de- feat they suffered at the Nebraskans' hands last year.As the old saying goes. This clever farce concerns the servant problems of the newly rich Welbys and their attempts to solve it by hiring four bogus Russian Noblemen. Everyone falls in love with everyone else and the entire affair made a very successful play. The VVelbys were played by: Jeanne VVal1in as Mrs. XVelby, Louise Kom- isor as Connie Welby, Margaret Gowdy as Betty Welby, Dorothy Schick as Alice Welby, and Bud Whelan as Amos Welby, The Russians were played by: Don Ulrich as Grand Duke, Dean Milward as Prince Vladimer. Bob Mothershed as Count juan, and jean Bromley as Princess Irma. Also in the cast were: Joyce Tate as Mary Maudsby, Sid Bronstein as Kirk O'Farrell, and Norman Udevitz as Gutteridge. Ptah, postal match. Second place was won in the XYilliam Randolph Hearst match, and a fourth in the Intercollegiate. Highest individual honors were captured hy Dave Dunlap who will receive two trophies. one for being the ace marksman of the squad, computed hy average, and the other for heing the highest junior. High tyre Shot went to Roy Treher, sophomore marksman.
