Exrral Extral Semors Are Paroledl Read All About ltl By Raymond Ulfetlrnerj Gause Twelve years ago we were put on tr1al before the Jury four parentsj and the Judge four f1rst grade teacher, and were sentenced to twelve years at hard labor At first rt was tough gorng, the hardest thrng bemg to adjust ourselves to the confrnement to clom quarters However, we soon learned the character rsttcs of each teacher and how to politxc whlch proved to be a valuable asset Dunng the next erght years we gradually xncreased our knowledge and were transferred to another prison, where we were glven more privileges but where the punrshment was more severe for tnfracuon of the rules We ve heard rt sard, and we re sure it s true, that trme marches on, but dunng our frosh and sophomore years we began to thmk that rt had stopped to rest! But enough of the past Let s move to the present We have serv d all but a few weeks of our sen tences and are about to recerve our freedom fdrplomasj, the goal toward whrch we have been strugghng for the past twelve years Never have so few waited so long for so httle fwlth apologies to Mr Church At the present time fourteen of us have passed through the temble ordeal and come out on top four others having fallen by the way We w11l introduce each one to you as we stroll about our fahemy home away from home As we leave the room we re m QEng11sh roomy, we run rnto Glorra Doble Bowman a cute lrttle chick with a figure Marilyn covetsl We say hello to her and contrnue our stroll down the hall. The next place we enter IS the sweat room ftyping roomy, where we find Patsy Cross diltgently poundmg a typewrrter Patsy can type more words a minute than Mrss Champltn can say, and beheve you me that s plentyl After chattrng wlth Patsy awhile we renew our exploranon by visitrng the study hall, where we find Emmett, Johnny Paul, Gloretta, and Shirley mdulged in increasrng then knowledge by readlng such ln terestmg lrterature as Donald Duck comrcs and True Romances, the latter belng especially recommend ed by Mrs Ewrng for the eluctdanon of the mrnd Emmett and Paul feel especrally voracious for know ledge and are looking at Warden Adam s book Qrt s so easy to change a 70 to a 902, whrle Johnny Qwlth Gloretta and Slurley avidly looking over his shoulder, is reading a novelette entrtled How Do You Pro P0999 What s that norse we hear? Oh there s no need for alarm It s only Gary Bonds catchrng up on his sleepl Ian Jones has Just entered the room, carrying her pnde and Joy no, I don t mean her wedding rmg her bookkeeprng workbook Leavmg thrs ltterary group we see Derald and Raymond walking Melva Lois and Ianell up the hall Pinky Jones has made the remark that they re together ten hours a dayl So what? It wasn t too long ago that a lrttle red Ford was parked rn front of Vtncent s house unnl late at night, and we ll wager he wasn t practicrng on the pxano ALL that Umel The next two we run mto are Kenneth Bonner and Edward Means, our two Romeos, both however, without Iuliets You can tell they have Just come from shop by the condmon of the1r clothes they are both covered w1th glue Ut was a friendly scrap, however J There are Just a few we haven t met yet, but we ll run tnto them before long Here comes Stanley now Stanley has one of the ftnest bratns of anyone here Ut ought to be he never uses rt Q Well, that s us fspeakmg ungrammancallyy fourteen Seniors up for parole come May 19 You noticed, I m sure, four of our mob mrsstng Two of them, Frankte Dallas and Charhe Cogburn, laborrng under the delusron that the grass rs greener on the other side of the 'ence transferred to other pnsons Two others, Bones Ormand and Ronald Shackleford evidently frndrng the rigors of boot camp child s play compared wrth solvmg one of Mr Ellis s problems enltsted rn the mannes We expect within a few years to hear that they have been made prrvates!
