Seniors Weekend in Washington, D. C On Friday, September 25, at 6 A.M. sharp, thirty-three seniors, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Taylor, and Mr. Weimert left Chestnut Ridge High School for a trip to the United States Capital. We arrived in Washington at 10:15 A.M. First we made a tour of the White House, and following that we were guided through the Printing and Engraving building, with no samples handed out, thank you! Next we checked in at the Cairo Hotel. The girls were placed on the seventh floor while the boys were lucky and got the first floor. After this we had lunch at the Art Gallery cafeteria and made an inspection of some of the objects of art. The next building we visited was the F. B. I. This, I believe was the most interesting tour of the day. In the F. B. I. tour there was a trained sharpshooter who showed us his skill as a marksman. After he was through shooting we were each given an empty cartridge as a souvenir. The Thomas Iefferson Memorial was the next building we visited. After leaving the memorial we were taken to the Airport where several of us had our picture taken. Later we returned to the hotel. From the hotel we were taken to Schools Cafeteria where we got delicious food. After eating, we had our choice of seeing the Washington Senators and the Philadelphia Athletics play ball or going skating. The majority chose the ball game, while a few went skating. At the game all of us cheered when Ross Williams scrambled for a foul ball and came up with it and the biggest grin in seven counties. spread all over his face. At 11:30 o'clock we were all back at the hotel. Saturday morning after a very peaceful f?l night's sleep fno laughing pleasel we were all up and ready to leave for breakfast at 8 o'clock. CLASS PROPHECY I watched the celebration and then decided to take a walk in the forest. What strange noises I heard. I sat down on a log close by and saw something shiny close by my feet. Picking it up, I saw it was a large diamond. I grabbed it and plunged it into my pocket. As I walked further on I was led into a trap. When I turned around. I met face to face, three little figures of native girls. Who were they? SHELAH ROSE BENCE, CAROL EARNEST, AND DOROTHY HORNER. I hardly knew them with that fancy hairdo. A bone through the top! I cou1dn't see how they changed so much. They grabbed me and made me start walking to meet the so-called mother of the tribe. How could I ever believe it was my dearest friend, DONNA LEE WEAVER. She gave me an order, to a very at- tractive lady to tie me to the stake. IULIA! IULIA HERLINE I cried, Don't do it, please! After many hours of struggling I finally broke loose. Running like wild, I was again caught by some more of these strange looking characters. Why would DONALD HORNER, ROSS WILLIAMS, AND CARL MAY want to make stew of me? Into the cooking pot with this girl, I heard them cry. The water was being well heated by their cooks, IANET EMRICK, BETTY LOU FRA- ZIER AND IANICE MANGES. Sitting at a distance, close to a stone, I could see some one looking at those strange instruments they were about to use on me. Why would NANCY SLACK want to do a thing like that. As I saw the fire still blazing, my face wet with prespiration, I noticed the strange figures of PATRICIA MANGES, AND LEE WENTZ still bringing in more branches to make the fire grow. In a second I, VIRGINIA LABUDA would be thrust into the boiling water. Iust then a daring young man came forth. Was I glad to see VINCENT HICKEY. I was safe again and I will return home. Was this only a strange dream, or will we wake up some day and find ourselves in this strange African Iungle. Twenty Six

there we were taken to the Archives Building to see the impressive sight of the large iron doors opening. The Supreme Court was our next stop. After leaving this building we had a group picture taken at the Capitol. We in- spected the capitol, then the Franciscan Monastery where we were taken through the gardens and also through the catacombs. We took time oft tor lunch and then we went to the Smithsonian Institute, which consists of a num- ber ot buildings. Sunday morning, we were all ready to leave the hotel by 8 o'clock, although some rooms weren't called. We ate breakfast at Harrington Hotel Kitcheteria and lett there to visit the Lee Mansion. From the Lee Mansion we went to Arlington where we saw a ceremony, we saw the changing of the guard tor the tomb of the unknown soldier. Pretty snappy don't you think so girls? Next we visited the Lincoln Memorial and then the Washington Monument. The zoo was next on the list and a tew of the boys almost got lett be- cause we couldn't tell who was who at the monkey cages. From the zoo we went to a church service at the Washington Cathedral. After the service We left for good old Schellsburg. We took a break for something to eat at Greencastle but were soon on our way home as there were a few who were in a big hurry to get home. I wonder why? It was a wonderful trip and on the bus coming home, I happened to overhear these words: I wonder it we could make enough money to go again in the spring.
