SCHOOL DAZE You may have heard about me, although I doubt it. I am the cat that first saw this class come to Schellsburg-Napier High School in l95U. Now don't get me wrong. I like them, sometimes, but 73 descending on these sacred portals with the patter of little f?l feet was just too much for me. I left. A month or so later I took the mouse by the tail, figuratively speaking, and cautiously peered in a window. But there wasn't much to fear because they were busily engaged in a class meeting. When all the voting was over, the results ap- peared on the blackboard like this: class motto, Knowledge gained is the stairway to success, class colors, blue and silver, class flower, American Beauty Rose. They also elected class officers. A short time later I discovered them selling magazines, and after that, I didn't see much of them. Next year, due to East St. Clair, West St. Clair and Harrison Township changing schools, only 48 of my friends returned. Although a little scatter- brained, they managed to sponsor a square dance, a skating party and a door-to-door bake sale. I chaperoned them very closely at this event. Those crumbs were delicious. Well, the juniors returned to Chestnut Ridge High School and as a re- sult of the new jointure, I0 more class members are lost. This year was really hard on my nerves, the ball started rolling with a square dance in October. Most cats would have given up, but I stuck with them through the rehearsals and finally the performance of Grandad Steps Outf' on November I9 in the Schellsburg Co-op Theater. Castly speaking, I really howled at some of those scenes. I wasn't there, but rumors are, that the floor was dusted at the skating party, December 9. What confusion! Their wails and lamentations could be heard for miles around, finally I learned that their class rings came late, not arriving until around the Christmas vacation. I hopped a ride and looked in on their Iunior- Senior Banquet at the Penn-Bedford Hotel on April 14. A wiener roast was held May 29 as a windup of their jolly days. Seniors, at last, and only 33 classmates left! In order to avoid the spring rush, the Washington trip was taken in the fall. I wanted to go along but didn't quite make it. Anyway, they all enjoyed it tremendously and had lovely weather during their stay. Victory in the magazine campaign and a pint of ice cream for each person, but me, I missed out on it. The Yearbook fund was replenished by a skating party. At Christmas time the Seniors sold cards, stationery, etc. As the Lion goes to press, they are preparing a play to be given in March. Name cards and announcements are to be ordered. I know their real interest lies in Baccalaureate May 23 and Commencement May 26. Seventeen
