To the Senior Claes of I960: At this time, it certainly gives me great pleasure and brings much sadness in writing this note of congratulations to the Class of '60. four twelve years spent here at Chestertown Central have been years of great happiness for both myself and the faculty. lou have set standards and goals that have been accomplished by you scholastically, educationally, and socially. Words fail to express what your class as a whole has done for Chester, and with all sincerity I bid you adieu, with much success in the future. ry Sincerely, ihn H. Brinkman MRS. NEVA BRINKMAN Secretary Our Board of Education, which meets the second Tuesday in every month, has done much to further intellectual development of our community. It is our Board who provides all the children attending school with medical atten- tion, such as: The yearly check-up by either Dr. Blodgett, Dr. Shrank, Dr. Bibby, and dental surgery from Dr. White. They also provide transportation for all children needing a way to and from school. They are responsible for the speaker at commencement day exercises. The Board provides us with all the furniture and fuel needed in the maintenance of our Alma Mater. The Board adopts by-laws and rules for its government. Any meeting may be at- tended by the public. These men volunteer their services, and take their pay in the satisfaction that they are furthering the education of the men and women of tomorrow. Dave Bedell leaves his ability to make experiments in chemistry class more exciting to anyone who wants to get bawled out by Mr. Wentworth. Blaney Blodgett leaves his ability to kick, trip, elbow, multilate, and completely confuse the whole basketball team to Jim Magee, and also his ability to swear at ski bindings to Ronnie Kingsley who’s learning fast himself. Sandy Brinkman leaves her dramatic ability to anyone who wants to be- come a nervous wreck overnight. Andy Campanaro leaves his ability to heckle Mrs. LaFlure and completely upset her to Louis Merkle. Betty Carpenter leaves her orderly manner to Kirby Huestis, who might make good use of it. Randy Ellsworth leaves his weight to John Little in hopes that John will leave him his. Brad Hayes leaves his monitor job to anyone who is lucky enough to have a truck to watch from and a girl friend to watch with. Elaine Hill leaves her ability to fall asleep in study hall to Connie Bruno who would probably talk in her sleep. Betty Moon leaves her French Horn to Bobby Ellsworth in hopes he will use it to the best of his ability. Sally Sanders leaves her jeep driving ability to Mrs. Magee who seems to be doing pretty well herself! Margaret Tennyson leaves her ability to get 100 on the trigonometry re- gents to Jim Magee in hopes that he will keep up her good record. We, the Senior Class leave, to the junior classes' joy. Witnesses Alfred E. Neuman R. U. Funny Today, June 24, nineteen hundred and eighty five, the class of nineteen sixty congregates in Madison Square Garden to honor Coach Ross whose winning basketball team, the Ross's Rockets, have just won the world's championship. Well, if it isn't Dave Bedell just arriving in his limousine from a world tour with his golden trumpet. As he enters, girls run, screaming towards him for autographs, I wonder if this sort of attention really began back in those high school days at C.H.S.? Here's someone bungling his way through the crowd. Yes - it's Blaney Blodgett, famed Olympic skier. It seems in his spare time he invented a new type of ski binding that doesn't come off on steep slopes - as a matter of fact he's still wearing them - they don't come off at all! Oh! Here comes Andy Campanaro in his '49 DeSoto which I remember from the old days at Chester. He tells me he now has a monopoly on all the barber shops in the United States. I read in the paper that he has special rates for gangsters. He spends more money on mops than any barber around. Here comes Brad Hayes in his new '85 Dodge pick-up truck. He bought Hemingway flats and now is using it for speed tests for new models. He owns the truck division of Dodge now. Randy Ellsworth has just arrived on his new rocket sled. Right behind him is Sally Sanders in her customized jeep. Sal, in the last few years has capital- ized on her art work by creating a new cartoon character, Buster Beagle, the doggy detective - Walt Disney’s really worried. Randy has replaced Von Braun as head of the space program. Here comes Sandy Brinkman in a new Corvette. She has just returned from South Africa where she delivered many monologues to the members of the Wazza Tunni tribes. Guess those speaking contests at old Chestertown really paid off. From out of the crowd comes Margaret Tennyson, head of the math depart- ment at Albany State Teachers College. Those marks she received at our alma mater certainly proved something. Oh! Here’s Betty Moon. Betty has really benefited from her work at the telephone office. She is now operating a switchboard on the moon. Following her comes Betty Carpenter with a pencil behind her ear. All that work on the treasurer's books at C.H.S. really paid off. Why, here's Elaine! She finally found her man and is now living happily, running a monoply on all grocery stores in the United States. i (?1 Z4A In the year 1948, the class of '60 began their first steps in education with David, Blaney, Sandy, Andy, Betty, Randy, Sally, Margaret, and Brad. Since then we have gained and lost many classmates along the way, gaining Betty Moon in the third grade and Elaine Hill in the fifth grade. In fifth grade we made the exciting trip to visit Fort Ticonderoga, along with the then present sixth grade. During sixth grade we made a tour of the famous Saratoga Battle Field Area. I doubt if anyone will forget our first taste of sulfur water that day in June! On June 1956, we received our long awaited eighth grade graduation dip- lomas. During our last four years of high school one of the main class projects was earning money for our treasury. During our freshman year we sponsored a movie at the Carol Theatre titled, The True Story of Jesse James. Then again in our sophomore year on April 9 - 10 we presented Darby's Rangers. ” In our junior year Mr. Campanaro helped us to sponsor Mardi Gras. All these movies proved to be big successes. Near the middle of our junior year we received our class rings which we proudly displayed. About that time we also began work on our Junior Prom with the assistance of Mrs. Bedell and members of the faculty. Moonlight Cruise was a complete success. Afterwards, we all joined together at a party, given by our parents, at Glen Rose. This year, we presented our Senior Play, It's A Great Life by William D. Fisher on November 20, 1959. Under the direction of Mrs. Magee and the assistance of Mr. Hartness our play was a hit! The spring semester of our senior year brought the greatest thrills of our high school careers - our trip to Washington and New York City and the cul- mination of our experiences - our graduation on June 24, 1960. OUR JUNIOR PROM, Moonlight Cruise, which was presented on May fifteenth, was certainly an event to remember. The stage was decorated to resemble a ship, and hur- ricane lamps at the tables helped to set the scene. At the hour of eleven, David and Sally, our King and Queen, preceded the court in the Grand March. Later our King and Queen led the dance to Red Sails in the Sunset played by the Sportsmen. OUR SENIOR PLAY It's a Great Life, a 3 act farce-comedy by William D. Fisher, was pro- duced on November 20, 1959. Under the direction of Mrs. Magee we were able - most of the time to keep our minds on rehearsal. And it was a great life when we licked these problems (just to name a few). Teaching Betty . Carpenter to faint realistically, getting David into his evening gown right side out, borrowing enough spray paint to make Elaine a blonde, getting Sally (in her gown) through the door, squeezing Blaney plus his 3 foot shoulder pads into a suit coat borrowed from Mr. Magee. Suprisingly enough, it was an overwhelming success. Senocce Student @ou tciC Cu6 BACK ROW B. Carpenter S. Walkup L. Beadnell FRONT ROW B. Moon M. Tennyson B. Flachbarth C. Bartlett S. Whipple C.
