THE panther Prologue As our happy years at C. H.S. draw to a close, we look forward to what lies in our future. For some of us graduation means acquiring a job and eventually settling down to raise a family. For others it means college and a chance to meet new friends and interesting people. However, we will never forget our friends here at Chestertown Central School, the teachers, the janitors, the women who work in the cafeteria, and of course the students. So we will keep this yearbook for the future, when we can look through it and relive some of the many happy experiences at C. H. S. Just across from Panther Mountain, With her pine trees green. Stands our noble Alma Mater, Plainly to be seen. Blest by love of all her children. Who work with will and might To keep her colors proudly flashing, Scarlet and white. Chorus Lift the chorus, sing her praises, Over hill and dale. Hail to thee, our noble high school, Chester, Hail all Hail. The Alma Mater - it V Dedication The Chestertown Senior Class of 1958 would like to express their appreciation to their parents by dedicating the 1958 Pan- ther to them. They have given us encouragement when we needed it the most. It was through their efforts that we understood the impor- tance and value of attending school. It was because of them that we realized that these are truly the best years of our lives. So, as a small token of appreciation, we would like to dedicate this yearbook to our parents. MRS. BRINKMAN Secretary Principal and Secretary MR. BRINKMAN Principal mj □ Chestertown Central School Chestertown, N. Y. JOHN H. The gym was decorated with an Oriental theme and most of our decorations were directly from Japan. Our music was by Ernie LaRouche’s Orchestra and our theme song was, Japanese Sand- man. ” Dale and Beverly were chosen King and Queen. Our Junior Prom was a success. Our Senior Play Our Senior Play, Oh, Promise Me! was presented on November 22, 1957, at the school gym. It was a three-act comedy. The cast of characters was: Seth Miller, a lawyer, Ronald Joseph; Furber, a butler. Dale Strickland; Barry Hollis, a young million- aire, Donald Goodrich; Mrs. Sue Hollis, his aunt, Wanda Strickland; June Hollis, his sister. Georgia Bischoff; Kathleen, the cook, Ada Holmes; Ann Furber, a young actress, Nancy O'Connell; Patsie Linden, a dancer, Beverly Roberts; Mrs. Linden, her mother, Carol Cunningham; Gladys Vance, a dream-girl, Alison Gibb; Ralph Sanders, a man with a purpose, Reed Mack; and Mrs. Jones, a young mother, Eleanor Warner; Gus Giersberg, our Property Man; Mrs. Magee, our Director; and Mr. Wentworth our Advisor. Our play was a great success and we enjoyed putting it on for you folks. Our Class History Our class started In 1946 with five students in the first grade, along with many others who have since left us. The five people were Ada Holmes, Reed Mack, Nancy O'Connell, Beverly Roberts, and Eleanor Warner. In the second grade we acquired Carol Cunningham from Brooklyn. Donald Goodrich came up from Warrensburg to join us in the fourth grade. In the fifth grade, Ronald Joseph, from Long Lake, and Alison Gibb, who was promoted from the fourth grade in the middle of the year, joined us. Then we moved upstairs in the seventh grade. During this year our history class went on a trip to Fort Ticonderoga. Graduation into high school came next, and we knew that our ultimate goal, our high school diploma, was only four short years away. In our freshman year we put on the one-act play, The Neighbors.” Georgia Bischoff, from Manhattan, joined us in the tenth grade. Also that year, we presented another one-act play entitled, Youth and Uncle Sam. As Juniors, we gained two new students from Pottersville, Dale and Wanda Strickland. We were very busy that year with class rings and the Junior Prom. Our Prom had an Oriental theme and was decorated with real Japenese lanterns. Dale and Beverly were chosen King and Queen. We then moved on to the 12th grade, where we gained our last member, Gus Giersberg. Gus didn't quite make it his last year so he came back to finish his education. On November 22, 1957, we presented our Senior Play, Oh, Promise Me. It was a three-act comedy about a playboy who got involved with two girls. It was a big success and everyone enjoyed himself. As this yearbook goes to press, we are looking forward to our Senior Trip to Washington, D. C., which we are sure we will enjoy. But even more than that, we are looking forward to graduation and commencement.
