Alma Mater Just across from Panther Mountain, With her pine trees green, Stands our noble Alma Mater, Plainly to be seen. Chorus Lift the chorus sing her praises, Over hill and dale, Hail to thee our noble high school, Chester, hail all hail. 1 Prologue t Twelve years ago we, the Class of '53 entered school during an era In which the atom was but the key to greater scientific possibilities. To us this is both a prologue and sin epilogue, for the atom has become both a beginning and an ending. This is our yearbook, a record of our lives; to us it represents an ending only of a phase; what is most important, it is the beginning of a new day in which we shall assume our share of responsibility. 2 Dedication It is with pride and gratitude that we, the Class of '53, dedicate our yearbook to our advisor whose guidance, humor, and example have proved that responsibility does not mean the abandonment of understanding. For his patience and inspira- tion we express our thanks and dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Wentworth, with whom it has been a privilege to work. 3 Appreciation We wish to extend our ap- preciation to Mr. Searle for his assistance in the produc- tion of this yearbook. We wish to express our thanks to Mr. Sumy whose patience, skill, and cooper ation made this yearbook possible. U Evelyn Tennyson-Typing Ruth Altrock-Asst. '5l-'53 15 Class History - The nucleus of our present class began in 19 +1 with Gene Flachbarth, Philip Perry, Arthur Winchip, Nick O'Connor, Teresa Bartlett, Anne Frazier, Janet Little, Almeda Moffitt and Evelyn Tennyson. In the fall of our second year we gained a new electron from Corinth—Carolyn Holmes. Later during the fifth grade, we com- bined with a small atom to gain Mike Ross from Glens Falls and Joseph DeMatties from Lake George. Two more electrons were gained in the sixth grade when we attracted Bill Moore from Brant Lake and Bill Tennyson from Schroon Lake. With our seventh term came Dick Raymond hurtling through space from Riverside to Join our atom, which, by now, was well on its way toward the first major step in becoming a full fledged molecule — eighth grade graduation. Next came high school where for four years our atom expe- rienced a series of reactions, namely the Frosh Hoedown, the Sophomore Food Sales and the loss of one electron, Mike Ross (who entered the Marines), the Junior Magazine Subcription Drive and the addition of Ruth Altrock, a new electron, from Elk River, Idaho, and last but not least, the presentation of Our Show of Shows. We are now looking forward to our next chemical reaction— Washington D.C. and to our final fission when we shall each go our seperate ways. 16 Class Prophecy It is the year 1975. Professor Wentworth, Dean of U.S.M. (University of Solar Mathematics ) Looks through his scrapbook and many memories of the Class of 53 flow back to him It doesn't seem possible that such a length of time has passed. What are they doing now? Well, let us look into the future and see. Bill Moore, after graduating, became the worlds greatest Engineer. His most noted achievement was the building of the bridge between the earth and the moon, an accomplishment that would baffle an ordinary engineer--- but not Bill. Joe DeMatties, who while still a student, had developed a knack for breaking game laws, (his motto-- There never was a law that couldn't be broken. ) is now doing a short stretch up the river for obvious reasons. Art Winchip really got busy after graduation. While at Janser's he invented a Jerkless soda which ran all the ice cream companies out of business. Now Art has a monoply on the whole works. Ruth Altrock has made a big name for herself as a professional model. Her life is not without trouble, though it seems that she makes so much money that the government is always pestering her for loans. Phil Perry seems to have the most bounce of all the graduates, he is the Worlds Champion Bronc Rider. Anne Frazier is now a Hollywood Columnist—with her gift of gab she's a natural. (No offence, Anne.) Janet Little is now a secretary for Shrimp and Mackeral fish import- ers. She's thinking of quitting though. She doesn't like shrimp. Teresa Bartlett always wanted to be a nurse. She got what she wanted but not where she wanted. She is now head nurse of Lower Lower SLOBOVIA Hospital. Gene Flachbarth became a world famous carpenter. He built the world's tallest building (8CC stories) but, he forgot one thing—gravity. The darned thing sank out of sight and popped up in China somewhere. Tough luck, Hez. Speaking of tough luck, Bill Tennyson really had it. He went into the used car business but didn't make out very well. He might have done better though, if he had sold the cars for more than he paid for them. Dick Raymond became president of the Foundation of Rehabilitated Drunks, a subsidiary of Alcoholics Anonymous and has made model citizens of many of them. Evelyn Tennyson turned out to be a real success in her field. She is an e pert in the study of the human mind and has learned something of great importance—people think they know more than they really do. Carolyn Holmes bepame the first woman lumberjack. She says I'm the only woman lumberjack, and I like it. No other lumberjack can make this statement. Almeda Moffitt became head-mistress at an orphanage, and now her life is filled with children's voices from dawn to dark. Bless their little pointed heads. Nick O'Connor became president of the Little Jiffy Cosmic Meat Ball factory. Gad, what an end! To think that such an end should come to such a promising class, thinks Mr. Wentworth, as he closes his scrapbook. 17 ■Hast IPtU atilt (Lestmtmtt.
