Gail Jones and Lisa Wingerter 2 Mrs. Donna Clendenin Mrs. Pat Pautler We, the Summit staff of 1984, would like to dedicate our annual to two very special people who have given their time and support to make this yearbook the best possible. They have spent many long hours working in order to meet the dead lines. It has not been an easy year; everything was new to them, but with them they brought leadership, productivity, and creativity. THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR BOYS STUDYING VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE If you have an interest in farming. FFA may be for you. This is an organization for young men and women who want experiences in farm life. The students operate the popcorn stand during football and basketball games, they also sell garden seeds and rose bushes. The money they earn helps support their members who attend soil and livestock judging contests at various colleges in the area. Members also participate in a Parent-Member banquet where their new officers are installed. Mr. Roy Heldebrandt is the sponsor of this active group of young men and women. 37 The JETS (Junior Engineering and Technical Society) Team Competition was once again held at Belleville Area College in February. The students took tests in one or two of the following subjects: English, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Graphics, and Biology. Although the team as a whole did not place, John Colvis and Keith Hartmann both tied for third place in Graphics. The JETS team was coached by Mr. Gillmore this year. Also, they had their annual carnation sale before Valentine’s Day and they sold T-shirts and shorts which will be used for the new PE outfits. 50 Top to Bottom: Editor . Jackets Suffer Disappointing Season This year's varsity football season ended with a 2-7 overall record and an 0-7 conference record. The team larked in size and experience. These factors plus key players suffering injuries throughout the season hampered the team very much. The aerial game was in the hands of a junior, Todd Fleming, and a sophomore. Curt Clendenin. These two had to put together a large part of the offensive drive because the ground attack was considerably weak. An outstanding receiving performance was given by junior, Jim Howie. He was named to the First team All-Conference at the tight end position. With this disappointing season the Yellowjackets gained much needed experience for next year. Hopefully it will be a better one. Freshmen go 0-7 The freshman football team had a depressing season at 0-7. The freshman team lacked in size, numbers and naturally experience. But this season gave them the experience they will need for a good season next year. Due to these efforts, he was chosen MVP. Since there will only be two returning lettermen and few new members, next season's outlook is not too bright, but their spirits are high.
