Saak, Coach Levin. 1965 Track Team The 1965 track team was one of the best in the history of the school. The Chester Thin Clads won three out of six dual and triangular meets. In the other three triangular meets, they finished second, once, and third, twice. In the Southwestern Egyptian Conference Meet, determined Yellow Jackets finished a strong third with forty-two points, only five points behind the conference champion, Sparta. In the District Meet three boys, Joel Thornton and Bob Herschbach in the high hurdles, and Bob Saak in the 220 yard dash, earned the right to go to the State Meet. Boys earning letters were seniors. Bob Saak, Bruce Brown, and Charles Keeble; juniors, Joel Thornton, Bob Herschbach, Bill Schuwerk, and Tom O'Connor; sophomore, Larry Bierman; and freshmen, Don Lowry, Andy Schuwerk, John Gordon, and Larry Eggemeyer Joel Thornton won the Most Valuable Trackman award by leading the team in scoring with 118 points. With nine lettermen returning, the Yellow Jackets are looking forward to a good track season in the spring of •66. Joel Thornton: Most Valuable Track Man of 1965. 30
