Jackets Win First ' The year 1965 marked the first time in the history of Chester High School that a Yellowjacket football squad has secured a Southwest Egyptian Conference crown. The Jackets compiled an unblemished conference record of six wins and no losses, while the overall record read eight and one. Poised and ready after a resounding 39 to 0 victory over Carterville in the season opener, Chester met two strong SWE title contenders—Anna-Jones-boro and Pinckneyville. Result: Chester scores two victories in conference battle. The rolling Jackets were momentarily slowed by a stubborn Valle eleven. Valle’s 20 to 7 triumph, however, didn't halt the Jackets for long as they rebounded with live consecutive victories—four conference and one non-conference. Chester's finale against perennial rival Sparta proved to be an exciting one. Sparta struck pay dirt first, but their ecstacy was short-lived. An inspired Yellowjacket squad swamped the Bulldogs to Chester hits pay dirt, end a terrific season on a sweet victorious note. FIRST ROW: A. Schuwerk, M. Usher, J. Greager, D. Lowry, N. Wolff, J.
