1965 Homecoming Activities The 1965 Homecoming activities were begun on Thursday, October 21, with a bonfire and a pep rally conducted by the cheerleaders in die football bowl. Friday afternoon, the Homecoming parade was led by the Civil Air Patrol Color Guard and the Chester Yellowjacket marching band. Convertibles carrying the retiring queen and the 1965 queen candidates were followed by the floats and die senior football players. Before the parade was over, everyone was wishing for fur coats and umbrellas for protection against the cold and rain. Friday night the Chester Yellowjackets defeated the DuQuoin Indians 13 to 6. At halftime, after the band float, We'll Get ’Em in the End, had been announced winner of the prize for best float, retiring queen Donna DiBenedetto crowned Miss Sheila Linton the Homecoming Queen of 1965. Mike Korando starts the three-day Homecoming festivities by lighting the bonfire. The C. H. S. marching band leads the Homecoming parade. The senior float, SWE, Here We Come, secures second prize. The band float, We'll Get 'Em in the End , takes first prize. The seniors show tneir enthusiasm by riding in the parade before the game.
