Gone for: ever will be the routine of school life, the fun we had, and the friends we made. It is the hope of the 1956 Sum- mit Staff that, as you glance through this book in the year to come, you will recapture those moments--and the echoes will begin again. S 'H ediccztdaa Dan P Zaaafzdafi TO DAN COLBERT--- President of the Board of Ed- ucation since 1948---a friend of all students---a loyal backer of the Chester team--- and a man of whom we are proud to have the acquaintance ---we proudly and sincerely dedicate this 1956 Summit. oftde Faculty and A Seniors . M. We traveled on the Great Southern Coaches under the supervision of Robbins' Tours of Marquand, Missouri. Although we saw many interesting things in south-eastern Missouri and in Arkansas, we made no stops this day except for lunch. We spent the first night at the Heidelberg Hotel in Jackson, Mississippi. Sunday, April 22: After everyone had attended church services, we continued on our way, stopping for lunch at the Morrison Cafeteria in Mobile, Alabama. We entered Florida by way of the Bankhead Tunnel and proceeded to the Pensacola Naval Base, where we in- spected an aircraft carrier. The afternoon was spent swimming in the ocean and sun- bathing on the beautiful white sands of Pensacola Beach. Sunday night we returned to Mobile and lodged in the famous Battle House Hotel. Monday, April 23: We toured Bellingrath Gardens and then traveled to Biloxi, Mississippi, where we stayed at the White House Hotel. The afternoon was spent in diversified activities but in the evening we all took a boat trip to Ship Island, which is about eighteen miles out in the Gulf. Tuesday, April 24: This was the big day! We reached New Orleans about 9: A. M. Here local guides entered our buses and conducted us on an interesting and detailed tour of the City. After checking in at the Jung Hotel about noon, we had a free afternoon for shopping and sightseeing. About seven o'clock we visited the Blue Room of the Roosevelt Hotel for dinner and the floor show. Later came a night tour of the French Quarter, cul- minated by a visit to the famous Morning Call Coffee Shop. Wednesday, April 25: A tired crew embarked for Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana. Here we had an opportunity to inspect the elaborate Capitol, built during the regime of Huey Long. After lunch we continued to Natchez, Mississippi, and visited Melrose, an old colo- nial home. Our last stop was Vicksburg. Here we toured the famous battlefield of the Civil War and saw the beautiful Illinois Monument. The night was spent at the Vicksburg Hotel. Thursday, April 26: With a feeling of sadness we realized that the big event wasaboutover. Again we rode all day and reached home about 6: P. M. We all agreed we had had quite an experience. Friday, April 27: Here we were, back in dear old Chester High!!! 'Q A .lip 7 ' of-L 2 ,Z fn Q, 22 Vw X un X - WW A -' l .- -3-Qgsigw-FL, ..-' 'El- ,A-s. X, Z t' 1,4-Y ' J A L . 1 R Nt 1 Og..
