Louisj 14 Chester 12 After a steady downpour the Mics and Yellowjackets played in a muddy mess that found Chester ahead 12 to 0 as the result of a fine pass from Beans to Welge, Minutes later Chester recovered a fumble and Wohlschlaeger drove over for a second score. McBride was big and tough, and finally after a muddy evening, wore the lighter boys down to score twice, late in the game to win. The entire team including two freshmen, McGee and Eggemeyer, turned in fine jobs. Carbondale 15 Chester 6 Carbondale's defense was too much for the C. H. S. lads. Jake scored only one TD. Passes weren't clicking, and after two tough losses before, the boys just weren't up to it, though they fought all the way. Cap't Cason began to play up to par, although an operation earlier in the season hampered him somewhat. Elkville 12 Chester Z7 Elkville furnished the opening opposition for the boys from C. H. S. and putup a good fight before going down to defeat. Wohlschlaeger scored first for the Yellowjackets to open the 1950 scoring. Stockwell and Jon Young also scored: and Kae made a second TD. Welge plunged two extra points and Grah ran on a reverse for the other. Thirty-nine players played in the contest. Anna-Jonesboro 12 Chester 19 Anna scored twice in the first half to lead 19-0, but the Yellowjackets came strong in the third quarter to score three TD's in 8 minutes. Wohlschlaeger and Stockwell scored on nice runs and Ohlau blocked a punt and recovered to score. Welge scored an extra point plunging. Cason, Qray, Hohgrefe, Lochhead, File, Wingerter played fine defensive foot- ball to stop an Anna threat later. Pinckneyville 16 Chester 13 The conference champs to be were in for a merry chase, but a safety and 2 extra points meant the difference. Chester was within feet of the goal as the half ended and ten yards shy at the end of the game. Either of these opportunities could have meant the game. Wohlschlaeger scored both TD's, and Welge made the extra point. The line played as a unit but just were outplayed that night. File and Stockwell ran well and Duchinsky threw like a veteran. 50 DuQuoin 18 Che5te1' 6 Wohlschlaeger scored early to give C. H. S. a lead, but the DuQuOir1 Indians Were really up, and scored twice to lead 12 to 6. In the closing minutes, Chester was stopped on the three where DuQuoin went to the air to score their last TD. A Chester back almost intercepted the pass which could have given us a tie game or a win. Murphysboro 26 Chester 18 This was the Homecoming game and one of the largest crowds Chester has had in years saw the C. H. S. boys go down fighting. Murphy's boys scored first, but Chester came back to score twice to lead at the half. Murphy scored then to lead 13 to 12, At the end of the third quarter, Ohlau caught his second touchdown pass to put us ahead 18 to 13. With victory within their grasp, the Yellowjackets couldn't cope with the fresh reserves of the opponents and after a TD pass in the end zone was dropped, they couldn't hold on. Murphy scored twice in the final five minutes to win. Wohlschlaeger scored one to make the total. Each boy on the team played his best, but Murphy was too strong that night. Cairo 33 Chester 12 In a driving wind-rain storm, Cairo score 26 points in the first half. In the second half, however, the Yellowjackets came out on top 12 to 7. Ohlau scored on a pass from Duchinsky and Stockwell really came into his own scoring a lone TD, It was just too much rain and Cairo. The boys stayed overnight in Cairo at the hotel and had a nice meal at noon on the way back. Sparta O Chester Z5 In the last game of the season the C. H. S. boys really vindicated their pride when they soundly thrashed a fighting Sparta team Z5 to 0. Sparta was never in a scoring po- sition throughout the game. All twelve seniors bowed out in grand fashion. Every boy on the varsity squad played a fine game while the local lads made merry. An ex C. H. S. letterman who had transferred, Dewey Kelley, played a good game for Sparta. Ohlau scored two TD's on passes, Wohlschlaeger scored on a 35 yard jaunt, and Don Grah went 40 yards on a neat reverse with fine blocking for a perfect play. Every senior lineman, Hohgrefe, Ohlau, Wingerter, Mallady, Cason, Lochhead, Gray, and Welge turned in a fine defensive job. File, Grah, Stockwell, Young, Jake, and Duchinsky made the last one the best one. It was the first time in several years that Chester had beaten Sparta. Charles Gray turned fullback to score the only extra point made. Nick Colbert made three game trys, but was unsuccessful in his attempted kicks.
