Arriving in Kentucky where the Livingstones have a large plantation, Lena and her grandmother are subject to the sort of treatment usually handed out to poor relations. But Durward Belmont, a friend of the Livingstones, sees Lena's real worth and falls in love with her much to the astonish- ment of the wealthy Livingstones, who do all they can to place Lena in a false position. The younger Livingstone daughter, Anna, and her brother, John Junior, become Lena'S firm friends and champion her cause. Lena, in turn, aids Anna in her romance with Mal- colm Everett, a tutor in the household. When it looks as though Lena will lose Durward, it is discovered who she really is and the two are brought together again. Throughout the play and within a year's time, Lena, the awkward country girl, has developed into a cultured young lady. Directors-Miss Zimpelrnann and Mr. Shanahan twenty-nine
