One of her stories, namely, that she and her husband are simply wallowing in luxury, even to the point of keeping a butler, reaches the ears of her well-to-do aunt, who pays her an unexpected visit. Mary puts up a gallant fight to save her face, borrow- ing enough household furnishings to hide from her aunt the most obvious signs of poverty, and pressing Harvey, her long-suffering husband, into service as the butler. Now aunty has never met Mary's husband, so when it becomes necessary to introduce her husband, Mary calls upon a quick-Witted stranger to act the role of Harvey. The step-husband, though good at pretense, is no match for Mary and soon has them both in a dilemma. Not until she has maneuvered Harvey to the very threshold of jail, does she call a halt on her wild orgy of pretending. Directors-Mlss BooK and MR. SHULTZ. twenty-jour
