The Girl's Soccer Team accomplished something which has never been done in the past by any girls team from Chester: they won the Western Division Championship and played in the Orange County Girl's Soc- cer Championship. The Team could not have done all this if it wasn't for the winning attitude each girl possessed. The teams 8-1-1 regular season record reflects this attitude. Since only three girls will be leaving the team, the soccer team is looking forward to another great season next year. ee fy —_ 3 Vy Sant rt Pn pa aise. ees Compliments From The Employees Of The Chester A P Route 17M Chester, N.Y. + ba Oe ram) y ne eo eh ope +) eae se - e=geeEeSe ewregerrcaas res TSE re See rane et WHR: . . TEXACO Chester Valley Inc. y Vi ps TRIBuTORS 1S os GASOLINE HEATING a | _— Basketball It's twenty after six, and the players of the first game are out on the floor, going through warmups. The Varsity Club members selling hot dogs this evening are heading up to the Home Ec. room. Meanwhile, spectators arrive at the gym entrance with money in their hands. Throughout the first game, more and more people arrive, filling the gym up, ever so slowly. At a quarter of eight, the first game ends with Chester in the lead 58-56. There is a mad rush into the gym lobby while the floor ex- changes JV players for the Varsity Bas- ketball Team. As the Hambletonians charge onto the floor, the cheer- leaders do their thing-stomps, cheers and applause. The buzzer is sounded, bringing an end to the break between games. The voice behind the microphone wel- comes the crowd to Chester High and proceeds with the line-up for both teams. The National Anthem is played and the game begins. Top — LuAnn Cavallaro scoops the ball over the head of her opponent as fellow team member Kay (STAR) Kreher (45) looks on. Above—Our man Darrer is set for battle as he charges down the court. Upper Right—John Sheehan makes a last attempt at the ball as his man goes up for the shot. Right—Pro-man Dan Roggia. Ten men occupy the spotlight while their coaches observe, referees blow their whistles and jog the length of the floor, and fans boo or cheer alter- nately. First period ends with Chester behind 14-18. The players are whisked to the side, their attention riveted to their coach as he goes over their per- formances. Spectators jostle in their seats waiting for the action to resume. Booing, cursing, cheering, screaming. At the end of the first half, the score is Chester 26—Visitors 28. Chester is not yet ready to give up. Everything is a loud buzz in the small area of the gym lobby as a multitude of spectators, all ages and shapes, crowd about, each packed in closely with those around him. Some are wait- ing on line to buy hot dogs or soda, some are trying to make phone calls at the booth, most stand about talking to friends, making plans for the evening after the game is over. The half time break is nearly over now and most re- turn to their seats, waiting for the ref to blow his whistle, resuming the action. 26-28 28-28 30-28 30-30 No one is sure as to how this game will turn out. The crowd gets caught up in the excitement and plans for the evening are left off for a while. Fans begin booing the refs again. A small fight breaks out on the floor as two players have a disagreement as to who should have the ball. Both players get benched. The veins on Mr. Payne's neck stand out as he shouts various plays to his men. “Number TWO!, Number TWO! ’ Top—Bill Perry coming down for the fast break. Above—Are Bo McGinnis and the referee doing a jig with the ball? Upper Right—Billy Darrer, George Gabel, Billy Perry and Dan Roggia wait for the opposing team. Right—The eyes of Vic lanuzzi (No. 52), remain transfixed on the ball while team member George Gabel recovers his balance. Photographer's flashes go off from various corners of the gym. 30-30 30-32 32-32 34-32 Aslight lead, but no one is relaxing. 34-32 36-32 End of third quarter. Fourth quarter begins. 36-32 36-34 37-34 38-34 More fouls are called on each team. Basketballs are shot home with amaz- ing accuracy to their destinations. The score is tight. The racket from the stands is almost unbearable as the game nears its finish. The players of both teams take wild shots in the few remaining seconds. 48-48 A foul is called on the visiting team. A chorus of groans rise up out of the far side of the gym. The man from Chester is at the foul line and all eyes are on himas he reaq- ies himself for the shot. He wipes the sweat from around his eyes. The visi- tors raise a clatter of noise as he elev- ates the ball. The ball floats through the air for a second, then dives down through the net to break the tie. Top Right—Connie Szulwach and Melinda Clemente fight for the ball with a Valley Central girl. Center—Susan Bah- ren, Donna Scandurra and Yolanda Zaccagino help spur the Varsity Team into action. Center Right—A few words of advice between quarters. This was news! Prior to that game, Chester had conquered Delaware Valley and Florida for the Class D and Sectional Championships. In fact, the regular season started off on the right foot as Minisink met defeat at the hands of Chester. Things looked bad for awhile when Goshen crushed the Chester men, but Chester came back and finished its 1973 season with a 10-5 record. For angles and planes which drive us insane “They are crisis without useful cause!”’ The crew nodded dully Not knowing quite fully That Math teachers occasionally err, For Algebra and Trig Are subjects so big That only the fools wouldn't care! Life is the ultimate learning process. We learn through our experiences with ourselves and others. Through the lessons we learn in life we try to construct the formulas which will obtain happiness. Some of us have been successful, some have not. So we keep trying. We leave you now, and in closing, we hope that you behind and next to us, will never forget, nor cease to search for, your own formula for happiness. | iS na? . ei . | geen Athi ae q yi (epee a AY on en = ew! ro eon a a wy ae ie Ne) a Hy } if Y
