Both the football and basketball teams were victorious and the support of the fans was overwhelming. The junior class placed first overall, followed by the eighth grade. Students and faculty of CHS dressed in 50's costumes, as op- posite sexes, formally, crazy, and in Columbia blue and gold. The winner of the event was the sophomores. The classes were assigned section of the halls to decorate. The junior class won this category with the seniors in hot pursuit. The crowning of the king and queen took place before the basketball game Friday night. Jeff Dahlen and Stefani Christoffer- son were crowned king and queen. The royalty were Ken Wooley, Travis Grammar, Derek Barrows, Bonny Kohrman, Margie Wodarz, and Sherry Gunn. The crown bearers were Sonni Spicner and Kyle Torgerson. Harlem's defeat followed the crowning as the girls basketball team rolled over the Wildcat's, 51-39. That evening a bonfire was held. The Homecoming parade Saturday morning was lead by the CHS marching band. They were followed by the Homecoming royalty, football players, basketball players, and floats. The win- ners of the float event was the eight grade. Saturday afternoon, the Coyote football team romped over the Fort Benton Longhorns, 53-6. Saturday night the girls' basketball team travelled to Blue Sky. The Coyotes were defeated by the Eagles, 50-73. The Homecoming week closed with a dance sponsored by the Student Council. 32B 32D 19 8 8 'Yotes in Playoffs ’87 football was certainly senior strong as the Chester Coyotes were led by 12 upcoming graduates. The team also consisted of seven juniors, four sophomores, and six freshmen. The Coyotes were led by Coaches Schlepp, Wooley, and Graham. For the second year in a row the Coyotes made it to the state play-offs, finishing the season 5-4. Harlem, Fort Benton, Fairfield, Cascade, and the CMR Sophomores fell victim to the Coyote attack, but the Choteau Bulldogs stifled the hopes of Chester winning the conference championship in a frustrating three-point loss. Chester filled up the All-State and All-Conference rosters with four and seven players respectively. A new award, Academic All State, which requires a 3.5 GPA and a varsity letter, listed five players, K. Mattson, K. Wooley, J. Marble, B. Kimball, and K. Graham. VARSITY, FRONT ROW: I. Wodarz, A. J. Winning on the road seemed impossible until the last two games when the Sunburst Refiners and the Harlem Wildcats were defeated. Home-town spirit and the pep band gave the girls the needed boost to win five games on their own court. To start the District Tourney in Choteau, the girls lost to a strong Fairfield team. They came back Saturday morning to deteat the home-town team in loser-out action advancing them to the consolation game Saturday night against Fort Benton. They placed fourth for their one win and the next week went to the Divisional Tourney in Shelby. After a loss on Thursday to Fair- field, the Coyotes met up with the Simms Tigers and that ended their season. One of the most unique moments of the season occurred at the District Tournament when the players on the bench occupied their time counting dead flies on the floor, and helping the others clean them off the bottom of their shoes. The District Tournament at Great Falls wasn’t a profitable one as the Coyotes lost two straight games to Fairfield and Simms. Although the Coyote season wasn’t a successful one, several younger players saw a lot of playing time which may boost Chester’s hopes for the year to come. This year, Brad Kimball and Derek Barrows claimed Second-Team and Honorable Mention on the All- Conference list respectively. VARSITY, FRONT ROW: B. The Coyote team, consisting of five freshmen, nine sophomores, six juniors, and one senior lacked floor experience. Only five girls had played in the varsity games before this year. The team started out aggressive, but due to unforeseen cir- cumstances had a hard time getting back on track. Coach Van Dessel kept a spark in the team to the end bringing them to a record of 7-28. This is the final realization that the graduates will be going off to college, into the work force or both. The graduates realize also that soon they will be away from home and the protective wing of the folks at home. The graduates of this year walked down the main hall of CHS for the last time May 26 as a real part of the high school. Many thought of all that had come about in those last four years. The talks with friends of events of the past weekend, the conversations with that special someone, and the unbelievably difficult math test last period, were all part of the happy-go-lucky life at CHS that they hoped would never end. 76 77 78 19 8 8 DAVID STENE, MGR SHELBY BUILDING CENTER.
