They dominated all their games both offensively and defen- sively. In the first playoff game in 1 3 years, the Coyotes clashed with 5-B champion. Cut Bank Wolves. The Coyotes played well against the much larger Cut Bank team but lost in the final period when Cut Bank, scoring on a fourth down play, ended the game with a 21-13 margin. The game ended Chester’s best season in 13 years. But, Coach, it wan Cramer 8 fault.' The Coyote offense, led by six seniors, averaged over 26 points per game. Eight members of the Coyote offense were named to the All-Conference team. Bob Kimball as running back and kicker, and Kevin Wooley at center, were also selected to the All-State offensive team for their outstanding performances at their respective positions. The league’s best defense placed a remarkable 10 of 11 starters on the All-Conference defensive team. Russell Wolfe, Defensive End; Kelly Wooley, Linebacker; and Bob Kimball, Defensive Back; were all chosen to the All-State Defensive team. Bob Kimball was also chosen to play in the 38th Annual East-West Shrine game. FRONT ROW: R. Wolfe, G. Thompson, D. Overlie, P. Nordstrom. T. Kohrman. BACK ROW : S. Kimball, Kelly Wooley. B. Kimball. After a spirited week consisting of Hawaiian, punk-out, dress-up, and blue-n-gold days, the Coyotes wrapped up a Homecoming victory by defeating Harlem 38-0. Two new traditions were brought about by the Student Council during the week. CHS had their first talent show and the halls were decorated by each class and judged at the end of the week. The talent was won by the “Beach Boys” group while the seniors had the best- decorated hall. Go back to your corners and come out fighting. Beat it, Beat it. 36 Homecomng Queen King S. Graham — R. Wolfe “When I was a little bitty boy.” Perfect form Cruisin' Coy of es Split the Season Under second year coach “■Butch” Zieske, the Coyote-ettes started the season with two victories over the Fort Benton Longhorns. The basketball bouncers then participated in the Fairfield Tour- nament playing two highly competitive teams ranked second and third in State. Unfortunately, the Coyotes didn't have enough gusto to bring them down. Conference play netted the Coyotes six wins out of 1 2 tries. The games were predictable because the Coyotes usually lost to teams with a lot of height. The Coyotes first challenger in the District Tour- nament in Cut Bank was the Harlem Wildcats. Starting off slow, the Coyotes were down by 1 1 at the half. The girs burst with energy in the fourth quarter and the game was going back and forth. When the final buzzer sounded it was a tied game. Two overtimes were needed to decide the final outcome and the Coyotes came away disap- pointed. The next morning Chester faced Chinook and was defeated thus ending the 1983 season. This year’s team was small in size and equally in number as varsity players with previous ex- perience were Cathy Pugsley, Nancy Harmon, and Staci Graham. Two juniors, Kay Cushing and Robin Meech, two sophomores, Marcia Standiford and Emily Wodarz, and one freshman, Sheila Graham rounded out the roster. - . -mw m SENIORS: Tammy AI bee and Rae Lynn Wanken SENIORS, FRONT ROW: S. Even though no one placed at divisional, the team wrestled with a lot of heart. The team will be losing three experienced seniors this year. Next year’s team will be young, as no one will have competed for more than two seasons. -;ERLEAl)ERS. N. Harmon BACK ROW: Dan Wooley,' FRONT ROW, CHE K . Smith, P Waite. They ended the regular season tied with Malta as conference champs. The Coyotes lost the coin flip with Malta and went into the District 5-B tournament as the second place team. In the first game the Coyotes destroyed Harlem 87-55. The second game was a different story as the Coyotes were beaten by Conrad 74-44. In the third and fourth games the Coyotes showed their ability by easily beating Shelby 64-44 and that night they annihilated Cut Bank 72-39. At the Divi- sional tournament, also in Shelby, the Coyotes started off right by beating Valier 78-58. In their se- cond game they shocked everyone by defeating Con- rad 58-54 in a gutsy display of basketball. The team then met Fairfield for the championship, but the Eagles proved to be too much as they beat Chester 65-45. The Coyotes ended their season in a disap- pointing way as they lost to a much taller Malta team in a challenge game 84-69. All season the boys proved heart defeats height and under the fine coaching by Mr. McLean made few mistakes or turnovers. Another important fact the records don’t show is that the boys showed excellent sportsmanship and many good comments were received. FRONT: C. Cramer. BACK: C. Pugaley, M. Minneham. S. Graham.
