In spite of having 13 seniors, only six had played varsity ball, so youth and inexperience were major factors. With a defeat over the Valier Pan- thers, the Coyotes were victorious on their Home- coming Day. FIRST ROW: T. Minnehan. D. Kimball. L. Muncy. D. Meech. K. Albright. SECOND ROW: L. Laium. G. I think they have finally got it. 11 Offense Even though the season record does not suggest a good year, the Coyotes did exceptionally well. With Coach McCormick’s strategies followed closely, few mistakes were made in offensive play, the most complicated aspect of the game. With the passing T. Minnehan to D. Garrett, and the running of B. Wilson, the Coyotes were able to keep their offenders off guard. Scott slips by Pioneer defender. Coach McCormick gives Tim some advice. Bruce runs against Cascade. Defense Defense was the name of the game for the Coyotes as they played well in all but one game. The Coyote defensive backfield, the best in the con- ference, made its opponents use the running game instead of the passing game. This helped the Coyotes in many games. The defensive line, who was out weighed in all the games, also did an outstanding job. Defense gels set against Belt Gar finds time to perfect his hike. Shan n takes a break. DEFENSE: KNEELING: S. Coyotes Seize Second in State To top off the ninth season of girls' basketball the team won both the Conference and Divi- sional titles for the first time and placed sec- ond in State. In the game for the State' Champi- onship, in Billings, the Coyotes faced the Three Forks Wolves. Chester came out deter- mined to show that they were 1. but Three Forks with a strong fourth quarter defeated the Coyotes 57-52. The girls, in order to play the Wolves, defeated Big Timber and Plentywood by the scores 50-35 and 58-41 respectively. Coming into the Divisional Tourney, at Fair- field, as conference champs, the Coyotes defeated Valier and Sunburst to earn the right to play Simms in tin championship game. Simms kept the game close but Chester domi- nated the second half and went on to win 48- 36. In season play the girls opened with ten straight wins before being defeated by Big Sandy. Then once again the Coyotes went on a winning streak placing three trophies in the trophy case, a Conference, first place Divi- sional, and a second place in State. CO-CAPTAINS: J. Wolfe. P. From then until Christmas the Coyotes had a hard time putting things in order and lost several games. After Christmas the boys pulled their act together and won three games in a row. The Divisional Tournament, in Shelby, came around and the Coyotes faced the Big Sandy Pioneers and lost by eight points. The Coyotes then played the fired-up Valier Panthers and lost to the Panthers in the spirit filled game. The team finished with a conference record of 8-8. Only three seniors were on the team so the Coyotes will be looking forward to a good season next year. A-SQUAD CHEERLEADERS: Debbie Nealy, Donna Raunig, Jenni Ludwig, and L. Cjesdal. V-I-C-T-O-R-Y, that's the Coyote Battle Cry It's not every year that the Pep-C Club holds an assembly in the poolside room at the Holiday Inn, but that was the case this year in Billings. The assembly proved successful as adults as well as the pep band and students aroused enough spirit to lead the team to State Runnerup. The Incredible Edible Peppermint Spirit Sticks were a big hit during boys divisional tournament week. Looking for more cockroaches, Sha n? 1 + 1 - 2 Donna, that cute guy is looking at us! Six Grapplers Place at Divisional The Coyote Wrestling squad brought back six medals from the Divisional Tournament in Big Sandy. Those placing were: D. Aitken and K. Albright third place. James Boucher. D. Pugsley, P. Brinkman, and J. Gjesdal fourth place. The team at State in Butte was able to win four matches. D. Aitken won three and placed fourth in the 145 lb. class, anel P. Muncy, who was the only member to place, placed fourth in the long jump. Preceding this, the Coy- otes placed third at the Divisional Track Meet held in Cascade. Wolfe, qualified for the State Track Meet, Coach Jarvis still considered the season suc- cessful. With only one senior and no juniors out for track, next year will be a building year. A busy year for eleven people was spent between editions of the paper and deadlines for the annual. Focus '80 was chosen as the theme for this year’s annual, in hopes that the year’s activi- ties flash before your eyes as you read your annual. Seven editions of the paper complete with pictures, kept people up-to-date on school and community activities. Blue anti Cold Times CO-EDITORS: F. Hodges and Wynnetle Seidlitz.
