FACULTY ADVERTISING 91-m Student Directory 112 MEMO: STUDENTS OF CHS DATE: 1978-1979 SUBJECT: YEAR OF THE COYOTE FROM: WILLIE Many of you may not know me, but I am a Coyote just like you. and the mascot for CHS. As you look and read through this book you will see me in several different forms and appearances. I am a master in disguise and I can do just about anything that is imaginable. To show you what I can do, here is a brief summary of my 1978-1979 school year. On August 20.1 began practice as a football player for the Chester Coyotes. I worked my way through a rough and tough season. A 4- 3 season record proved discouraging to me. About the same time that I started football practice I also started girls basketball practice. I had a successful season under the direc- tion of Coach Broesder, but did not reach my goal, STATE! I was defeated in the Divisional Tournament after a 12-4 season. As winter set in, I stayed inside and began to work at boys’ basketball. I started poorly, losing three games. Many people thought that it was going to be a bad season, but I showed them what I was made of and came back to win 12 straight games and entered the Divisional Tournament tied with Fairfield for the conference lead. I fought hard but came out of the tournament with second place, after a disappointing loss to the Eagles. I had made my goal of State, but did it the hard way. I went down to defeat in the first game against the Three Forks Wolves, but again showed my stamina and came back to win four straight, finishing third. 3 At the same time I was running down the court. I was also rolling around on the mat. I was inexperienced in this sport, yet managed to take eight places at the Divi- sionals held in Fairfield. At State, in Hamilton. I won two matches. I gained experience and hope to do better next year. After wrestling I took a little break, then started training for what turned out to be a very wet track season. I have quite a bit of natural talent in this sport and it went really well. I travelled to Billings early in March to take part in the State FHA Convention. I learned a lot about being a future homemaker and gained a few friends. Earlier I had travelled to Glendive to compete in the State Speech and Drama Meet. Toward the end of the year. I travelled to Shelby for the District Music Festival. Five groups secured superior rat- ings. which qualified them for the State Music Festival in Missoula. April 20-21. My 1978-1979 school year was an overall success and I would like to thank all of my coaches, teachers, and fel- low Coyotes who supported me through the year. THANK YOU ALL! 4 Class of “79” Bill Harmon Roger Heimbigner Nancy Wolfe Colette Lakey Melody Nason Scot Marshall Larry Hendrickson Joan Seidlitz Jon Boucher Bret Kenfield Kathy Albright Mike Mattson Bill Brannon Rhonda Jacobson Dave Wicks Alan Limesand Jan Jensen Kenny Gunderson Kelly Seidlitz Ines Ramos Mark Yackley Kathv Hofer Richard Overlie Rnhvn Pimslev Sherry Nuxoll Lana Campros Brian Kaiser Thaddeus Didier Frank Waite Rhonda Keith Jody Campbell CLASS OFFICERS: President, R. Well Sharon, I just don't know. lnes hands Mr. Moore a Mexican gift. When I decided to come to the U.S. as an exchange student my goals were to learn about the American life, and to learn English. My time is over here, and I realize those goals could not have been accom- plished without the help of many people. 1 would like to say thanks to the Buffington family for being like a family to me. Thanks to my teachers and principal for all their help during my study time. Thanks to the seniors of 1979, I was proud to be a member of their class. Thanks to all the rest of the kids in CHS for their warm Hi s Gracias My name is lnes Maria Ramos, and I was an exchange student from Mexico this year. I lived in Chester for six months, and during that time I experi- enced many new things and moments I'll never forget. I'll always remember how excited I was the first time I saw snow. everyday. I’ll always remember this great experience, this town, and the people of Chester. Lots of love lnes Juniors just hangin' around. Come on you guys, get busy. Don’t let him get out guys. Hey. Scot, cut that out. What’s Life Without Laughter? A new booth, the dime toss, proved successful at the carnival held by the Student Council, April 8. The raffle sales were down, but the take-in the night of the carnival made up for it, making the gross profit the same as last year. The winners of the raffle sales were Shelley Osterman and Mike Smith who tied for first. Shelley has won three years in a row. The excitement of the night ended with a dance by Brat. 16 You'd never believe what I just won! The Achievers TOP LEFT: French Visitors Lisa Duffin. Kathy Albright, C. Munfrada. Charlie was con- stantly surrounded by failure and ridicule; despite all this, he tried and tried again. On May 10, the drama class presented Happy Daze under the direc- tion of Mr. Hanson. A young man, unhappy with his real life, escapes into a world of make believe. He finally realizes that the world he creates isn't satisfactory. The frank and humorous minitour of his world takes the audience in unexpected directions. 25 Why did you insist on going home right after dinner last night. Faith? Hey, Teach! “Up the Down Stair- case” was presented by 24 junior and senior CHS students on April 28, under the direction of Mrs. Unterseher. The two-act play evolves around a young teach- er’s first job and the problems she encoun- ters with her unruly students. Underneath the comedy and humor, there is a real concern on the part of the fac- ulty and students to teach and to be taught. When do I get to go home and wash? James asks. Teach! There is chewing gum on my seat! Kathy exclaims. I gotta have a pass to the men’s room! Aden admits painfully. The group had two planning meetings for District, one in Great Falls at the Black Angus and the other in Conrad. They attended the District Conven- tion in Power. Four members earned enough points to attend the State Convention in Billings held on March 15-17. The girls paid Ines Ramos’ way since she was new in the country and didn’t have time to earn the points. In return for their gener- osity, Ines planned a supper for the members.
