BOT- TOM LEFT In the pep assemblies held throughout the year, many skits such as this leg-judging contest were given When Student Council mem- bers attended their first meeting last fall, homecoming was the first project discussed and a change was made. The candi- dates were all seniors instead of the traditional representatives from each class. Painting the lockers was the next project which took a lot of hard work and really brightened the CHS hall- ways. A new noon-hour policy was put into effect to help battle the long lunch lines. April 1 was the date for the Fools” Carnival. M. Nelson, J. Wolfe, A. Seidlitz, and Jackie Ludwig attended the District II meeting in Havre in April. Government Day was held May 1 with the new Student Council and cheerleaders, including a new squad for girls’ basketball, being selected. TOP LEFT: The Student Council dicusses Government Day. In March, the pep band journeyed to the State Bas- ketball Tournament in Butte. With the help of Mr. Frey and the spirit sticks, over $1,100 was raised to pay the way. The District Festival was April 21-22 in Cut Bank. The choir, the band in sight reading, and a majority of the groups received I ratings. Eleven events were sent to the Western State Festival in Missoula on May 5-6. The Wom- en’s Ensemble, Les Laas. and Kahty Hofer were rated superior; everyone else received a II. Deadlines! What a sense of relief and a feel- ing of accomplishment the staff experienced when the last school paper was stapled and the last quad-pak was mailed to the publisher. The staff couldn’t sluff or there would have been blank pages in the annual. Unlike any other class at CHS. this class shows its accomplishments to the whole school. Staff members spent class time and many evenings working to get the annual pages done on time. Now that the year has ended, the journalism class takes pride in knowing they have done something worth- while for the school. 50 Coyote Staff Co-Editors Kim Thielman Denise Raunig Honored Kristie Kammerzell Wendy Nuxoll Seniors and Faculty Laurie Langel Teresa Muncy Boys’ Sports Marty Lyders Paul Overlie Classes Kathy Albright Jody Campbell Girls' Sports Betha Turner Tracy Stratton Activities Randy Violett Jeff Boucher Business Managers Mike Duffin Lana Campros V k v % Editors TOP: FRONT ROW: L. Coach The wrestling team with the State runner-up trophy The Coyote wrestling squad, the most successful class B-C team in the state over the last five years, was rated on top of the class B-C power poll all year. This team captured the Northern Conference in the final confer- ence match of the season in Fair- field, the Northern Divisional held in Chester, and for the second year in a row. were runners-up at the State Meet held in Havre. This gives the Coyotes two State Championships, two State run- ners-up, and a sixth place finish over the last five years. Charley Frey, a new coach this year, took nine men to the State Tourney. Every varsity man from the 98- to the 138 class and HWT par- ticipated. Jeff Boucher and C. Lybeck earned State Champ crowns and R. Munfrada cap- tured the third place HWT title. The Coyotes won a spot in the championship game by first defeating Sunburst, and then downing the con- ference champs, Big Sandy. Eventually the Coyotes earned the second place trophy by first losing to Fairfield in the championship, and then defeating Simms in a challenge game. This gave the Coyotes their first chance since 1966 to participate in the State Class B Championship Tourney. The Coyotes ended the season with a record of 14-12. Although the Coyotes were plagued with ups and downs, per- haps the three best games all year were when the Coyotes defeated Big Sandy and Simms at the Divi- sional Tourney, and Plains at the State Tourney in Butte.
