; i « honore moments of pride moments of competition faculty moments of recognition moments to cherish moments of gratitude I've been here a long time nearly twelve years. I'm going awa soon and I don't know where or what to expect. So many things will cl range. . . My favorite radio station will probably be replaced by the chatter on my C.B. I am sure my friends will somehow be most of my classmates will probably move away. I wonder if I will change. . . THE SWEET GRASS HILLS ■ Xf ou can see the Sweet Grass Hills or The Three Buttes to the north rf here on a reasonably clear day. The Indians used them as watch towers from which they could locate buffalo herds. Things sure grow in this country. Some old timers.claim-thatwhen they arrived those buttes weren't much bigger than prairie g mounds In 1884 a Blackfoot Indian found gold in ehem thar hills and the usual stampede followed. The middle peak is called Gold Butte. It was claimed that the placer- ground in Two Bits Gulch produced twenty five cents in colors for every shovel full of gravel. , The pay dirt has been pretty well worked out and the glamor of boom days is gone, but a few old prospect the gulches hoping setje day to pot of gold at the rainbows end called the Mother REFLECTIONS Four years. For some it has been too long. Others felt it was days of good times, but every- one agrees it has been an experience. Our freshman year seemed different in many ways, but it was a beginning. A chance to meet people, start a career and grow as individuals. It was our time now to enjoy the maturity shared only by our peers before us. Who can’t remember looking up to seniors and wishing to have their nonchalant attitude? The dominant idea that sticks in our memories is the spirit shared by every- one at the carnival and pep rallies. k Sophomore days can be remembered as being Involved with a spaghetti supper and Friday night football games. Yet, even though we were sixteen, the eighteen year-old vote would soon be in our hands. In two years it would be our chance to get involved and help form a new society. Hopefully the wait would pass quickly. In our junior year, we had the opportunity to carry out the junior traditions. The prom, Sugar Baby Love, was a success through our eyes, even if all of us didn’t quite make it through The Sting and the breakfast held afterwards. Now we are almost there, will we ever make it? Our senior year. We began to think of independence, new faces, and challenges which would shape our tomorrows. We wondered at numerous national, racial, and historical events which brought confusion, instability, and corruption. But more fondly, we remember May 30, 1976. Now let us work to achieve dreams, contemplate opportunities, and begin again from this day. 9 LeAnn M. Didier 10 Sharon R. Hofer Laura L. Let's get this show on the road. Homecoming 1976 Homecoming activities began Thursday evening with a snake dance and bonfire where the coaches and senior players gave talks on the coming game. Friday found the students wearing blue and gold to support their team. After school, the annual parade took place. Eight o'clock found the Coyote fans in the stands awaiting the kick-off with Belt. During halftime, the winners of the floats were announced. Taking first place with The Sting was the sophomores. Jaws, decorated by the eighth grade, received second. Capturing third place was the frosh with Mash. The juniors, Walking Tall,” earned honorable mention. Bonita Fraser and Stan Heimbigner were crowned as Queen and King. Disappointment came when the Husk- ies defeated the Coyotes 15-12, but the evening climaxed with the dance in the old gym. Fairfield was the site of the 1976 State Tournament where the Coyotes met tougher competition and did not defend their two previous state titles. They finished sixth with 58V$ points. His State tournament record includes: First at 98 pounds as a freshman, First at 126 pounds as a sophomore and this year's champion at 132 pounds. He has established an outstanding overall record in the past three years while wrestling some of Montana's top competition. Historically, there have been only three wrestlers in Montana's past that have won four State championships. Colin hopes to increase this elite group to four with a first place finish next year. Champions in wrestling are made through dedi- cated effort. Mix this effort with luck, pain, and a few tears: from this, one can realize how much effort Colin has exerted for himself and CHS. They finished the basketball season with the Divisional Tour- nament held at the C. M. Russel Fieldhouse in Great Falls. The first game proved to be disasterous as they were defeated by the Big Sandy Pioneers by one bucket in the final seconds. The team came back in the second game to beat the Cascade Badgers setting a tournament record for free throws made in one game. The third game ended the season as they were defeated by the Fairfield Eagles. The two games were lost by a total of five points. Kenny Marshall was chosen by the news media to the second All-Tournament team. The season ended with a record of 12 wins and 11 losses.
