Jeppesen. 14 Distinguished President R. Wolfe Student Council Involvement in many activities highlighted the Student Council meetings in 73-74. Student Council was instru- mental in the organization of a successful homecoming. It was also a participant in the settlement of a mid-year junior class crisis. Volleyballs for the elementary were purchased through Student Council funds. In April one of the main goals fulfilled was the revival of the Carnival to make it the attraction it was years ago. Seidlitz. 15 Days of Work for Hours of Pleasure Homecoming festivities began October 4 with a snake dance and bonfire, followed the next day by a parade featuring each classes’ interpreta- tion of a television commercial. Besides sponsoring several dances throughout the year, they were also responsible for concessions during wrestling meets. Other business included bake sales, car- mel apple and fudge sales, a hope chest raffle, and a spring boutique. Hurley. 28 Juniors Revive Dickens A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens was presented December 21, by a cast of 16 juniors: L. Coffman, Narrator; G. Campros, Scrooge; S. Dolezal, Tiny Tim; N. Stand- iford as the Crachit children. C. Laas, N. Leitch, and D. Morrison, also appeared in the play. Teachers are Funny The faculty presented the play People Are Funny March 1 and 7. The cast of 14 teachers por- trayed the comedy expertly for three different audiences. The play was one which could be en- joyed by both children and adults. Schwede, B. Herman, J. Yackley, K. Glee. 31 Toughness, Tension, and Triumph The Coyote basketball squad had a successful season ending up with a conference record of 10 wins and six losses. By doing this the Coyotes placed third in the conference. At the divisional tournament in Shelby the Coyotes won over the Harlem Wildcats and the Sunburst Refiners, but lost to the Fairfield Eagles and Cascade Badgers to place fourth. Five seniors are graduating this year, three of them starters, but there is good potential for a successful season next year. The overall record was 14 wins and six losses. Many wrestlers went to the divisional meet in Fairfield to help the Coyotes become the number one team in the Northern Division. Seven members placed at this meet making them eligible to go on to tougher compe- tition at the state level. Colin Lybeck, Jim Dolezal, and Brad Turner each took first, while Barry Turner took second, Buster Brown third. Pam was awarded a $500 scholarship to the U of M by the Missoula Exchange Club at the fair. 44 High School Week D. Boyer, D. Hull, and B. Lakey atten- ded the High School Week activities April 25-27 on the MSU campus in Boze- man. These seniors were given tests en- abling them to compete for scholarships. Spor ored by the American Legion and Auxilia , the delegates spent a week during the summer of ’73 studying state and local government at Western Montana and Carroll Colleges. Science Winner Maih Winners D. Hull was awarded the Science and Math Award given by the Science Club to the stu- dent maintaining the highest average through four years of science and math. D. Hofer, T. Ish. These sophomore girls were top scorers in a Na- tional High School Math Contest given to 47 CHS students. The girls tied for first place with J. The 1974 track team did well. Many records were broken and one was tied. B. Hurley broke the high jump record by jumping 6'3-l 2 . B. Marshall broke the triple jump and long jump records, jumping 45 6-1 2 He also oroke the low hurdle record with a time of :20.4. The 880-yard relay team consisting of R. Wolfe, B. Brown, K. Mar- shall, B. Hurley set a new record of 1:36.2. B. Brown equaled a record set in 1972 in the 100-yard dash by running :10.35. The Coy- otes took second place at the divisional meet in Cascade scoring 63 points. B. Marshall set a new divisional record in the triple jump by going 44' 10-1 2 . B. Marshall, B. Hur- ley, B. Brown, K. Marshall, R. Wolfe, M. Seidlitz, T. Brown, and C. Hanson went to the state meet in Missoula. B. Marshall set a new state triple jump record of 45' 2 and tied ihe state high hurdle record of :14.9. He also placed first in the long jump and low hurdles scoring a total of 24 of Chesters’ 32 points. B. Hurley placed third in the high hurdles and fifth in both the low hurdles and high jump. B. Brown placed third in the 100-yard dash. Coach Tacke did an excel- lent job as was indicated by the year's results. 47 Cindergals Place Third at Divisional Chester girls placed third af- ter Fairfield and Cascade in the divisional track meet held in Cascade May 25. Nine girls represented Chester in the state track meet held in Billings May 31 and June 1. They were F. Hull, P. Glee, C. Lakey, D. Lakey, P. Broadhurst, K. Broadhurst, K. Kammeu U, J. Ludwig, T.
