Annabelle Broom, The Unhappy Witch In the wonderful world of fantasy, the childrens' play, Annabelle Broom, the Unhappy Witch, was brought to life by a few Chester High School students. Children and parents alike were caught up in the enchantment, as Debb O'Brien, playing Annabelle Broom, tried to change from a plain ole witch into a beautiful pink witch. Annabelle's sisters in the Witches' Union were up in arms, as Lydia, alias Jeanette Brady, ex- plained to the other witches what Annabelle had in mind. Mable, the head witch, better known as Judy Eveland, then gave Annabelle a job that should have kept her busy. The job: to frighten two lost children, Judy and Peter, played by Ryndee Keith and Terry Will. What actually happened, though, was the children talked Annabelle into taking them home. When the sister witches found out about this, they were in a rage. Ester, Valerie Thrasher, and Maud, Edie Pugsley, along with Mable and Lydia were determined to make an Annabelle stew. Searching the forest far and wide for the three, the four witches finally found them. Mable took away Annabelle's right to be a witch and then had Ester and Maud remove Annabelle from the stage. However, the children found that the secret to destroying witches was to laugh at them. Thus, the children began to laugh casting the four mean ole witches from the stage. At the end, Annabelle returned to the children the Pink Witch she had always wanted to be, leaving the story with a happy ending. The play was put on in conjunction with the Liberty County Arts Council, and under the direction of Miss Mary Ann Peterson. The cast did a tremendous job in their interpretation of the play. The Art II Class did a delightful job on the scenery. Yes, the Pink Witch will be well remembered in the hearts of everyone as a truly enjoyable, lovable story. Senior Class Play Dear and Glorious Physician Luke, the Apostle, came alive again in the Senior Class production of the great dramatic play of all times, Dear and Glorious Physician. The most moving and dramatic play ever placed before an audience by Chester High School students, the play re- lived the days of Jesus Christ. With Rodney Keith play- ing the role of Luke as a young boy, the audience learned of Luke's rejection of God. Steve Aaberg took over the role of Luke as a man and in the end we found Luke the lover of God he had always wanted to be. The students, under the direction of Mr. William Browning, did a very commendable job of bringing Luke back to life in a modem style. The Art II Class, under the skilled supervision of Mr. Norman Anderson, did a fabulous job on the realistic scenery. Junior Class Play Butter on the Bacon Laughing and ad-libbing part of their way through the comedy, Butter on the Bacon, the Juniors presented this fun-filled play to the public. With Terry Will playing the part of Jerry Brennan, who had just been named the Ideal Teen-age Boy, the cast showed how the want of money can change a person. Mr. Darrel Compton was the director of this modem comedy, with other members of the Junior Class taking care of the odd jobs. All in all the Juniors did a fine job in bringing this comedy to life. With an overall record of 18 wins and 7 losses, the Coyotes recorded the best season ever. Being defeated only three times in conference play the Coyotes finished second in the North Central Division and went on to win the second place trophy in the divisional tourna- ment. Although unsuccessful in their bid to win a berth in the State Tourney in the challenge game, the team will be remem- bered for their sportsmanship and performance. Chester’s biggest advantage throughout the year was a well- balanced team. Jeff Bredeson and Don Hull were chosen as the ’ Most Valuable Players by team members to receive the Ralph Shepherd Memorial Trophy. Don Hull won the Western Lumber Company free-throw trophy with a 63% from the charity line. Teammates chose Jeff Brede- son, Steve Aaberg, and Don Hull as captains for the year. 1969 VARSITY COYOTES KNEELING: Dan Wigen, Kevin Brady, Calvin Hanson. Wally Howery, Jack Wardell, Terry Will.
