Toolrie Oates proudly shows Mr. Pratt his blue ribbons won in calf club shows. F. F. A. Our Future Farmers Really Have Green Thumbs We are a part of that great vital group of American agricul- turists who provide food for our total population and foreign aid. Our school offers a three year course in the training of agri- cultural science through vocational agriculture. Our students have supervised farming programs on their individual farms which include every agricultural enterprise grown in Chester County. The purposes of our courses are: 1. to develop competent, ag- gressive, rural and agricultural leadership, 2. to create and nurture a love for country life, 3. to strengthen the confidence of farm boys and young men in themselves and their work, 4. to partici- pate in Worthy undertakings for the improvement of agriculture, 5. to develop character, train for useful citizenship, and foster patriotism. This scene typical of band rehearsal. Uv Lx My-X I J Q'9! ul, J. f f p W .f.fagQA.RTMENT we V A WVJA Valfiety of Music, Hard Work And Fun Is Our Motto Our high school music department offers a wonderful variety of all types of music-be it classical, standard or popular jazz. Singing is an activity and an art that we really enjoy. We like the marvelous variety and selections of our concerts at Christmas and our spring recital. We appreciate learning to sing in parts. We learn to love music and to express this love in our joy of singing. Late last spring our band had the wonderful experience of performing in the Cherry Blossom Parade in Washing- ton, D. C, The trip made by Greyhound took four days and those four eventful busy days will ever be remem- bered. We took sight-seeing trips over our Capital City. Much hilarious laughter and gay chatter filled those big Greyhound buses both coming and going. even if old man weather did send us snow in April on the way home. This season we have won second placefa hand- some silver trophy-in the district Band Contest and another lovely bronze trophy-third place-in the State Contest. We are looking forward to marching in parades, performing for other functions, and to presenting our annual concert in thc spring. All these things mean long hours of practicing both in the marching field and in the music room. In the Christmas parades, we had the happy honor of winning hrst places in both attempts at march- ing compctition. These honors brought us two additional silver trophies. Mr. Tyler gets that last parting word of instruction from a parent as the band pulls off tor Washington. Q 1 49' rf' qi?
