JJ-4 SCIENCE WCNDERS Scientific Experiments and Problems Hold Our Interest To meet todayis demand for better trained scientists. our school is stressing the importance of the four science courses offered to the students. Frequently the penetrating fumes of formaldehyde drifts through the halls of our building. The peculiar odor of sulfur dioxide emanates from the chemistry rooms. We are quite proud of our excel- lent biology lab. Wle examine parasitm and bacteria under the micro- scope, learning about the mysterious' make-up of plants and animal life. W'e make individual field trips and reports on nature and out- door life that add greatly to our knowledge and scientific interest. We gather material for display at our Science Fair. ln chemistry we learn the fundamentals of this fascinating sub- ject. We become familiar with those basic formulas-H,O. H,SO,, NaCl, CAfOHlQ. We watch with wonder some of our more compli- cated lab experiments that reveal to us the magic of chemical changes. We study light and sound in physics. We learn the prin- ciples behind radio, electronics, magnetism, and television. Each physics student builds an electric motor that really works. We learn about the how', and 6'why of everyday life. Through these various science courses we appreciate more keenly the value of science in our lives today. Biology class using microscopes.

Mrs. Miranda Weir, iunior librarian. -fl H . at Cro by 4' LIBRARY Our Libraries Are Popular Places for Reference, Reading, and Browsing Among the most popular places in our schools are the libraries. Every period of the day one Hnds almost all seats taken. Students are busy checking references, searching the Reader's Guide, delving into encyclo- pedias, and selecting books. Still others are looking in the stacks for back issues of bound magazines. Several are pouring over the large unabridged dictionaries, while other heads are buried in the latest newspapers, or browsing among the shelves in search of an in- teresting new novel or parallel reading. Our library is a beautiful and pleasant place to work. Eye catching displays greet us as we enter. We have a wide variety of periodicals, newspapers, and many books, although our librarians, Mrs. Wylie and Mrs. Weir are always eager to add to the shelves. We students really appreciate having such an attractive comfortable place of our own to forget ourselves, so to speak, in the world of printed page and picture. Mr. Rash, ceramics and art teacher, confers with Mrs. lda Wylie, our senior librarian. Magazines and newspapers are always popular. The library was our source for this bulletin board.
