CUR LIBRARIES ARE AN INVALUABLE AID IN ALL OUR STUDIES AMONG the most popular places in our schools are the libraries. Every period of the day one finds almost every seat taken. Students are busy checking references, searching the Readers Guide, delving into encyclopedias, and selecting books. Still others are looking in the stacks for back issues of bound magazines. Several are poring over the large un- abridged dictionaries, while other heads are buried in the latest newspapers, or browsing among the shelves in search of an interesting new novel or parallel reading. Our library is beautiful and pleasant place to work. Eye catching displays greet us as we enter. We have a wide variety of periodicals, newspapers, and many books, although our li- brarians, Mrs. Wylie and Mrs. Weir are always eager to add to the shelves. We students really appreciate having such an attractive comfortable place of our own to forget ourselves, so to speak, in the world of printed page and picture. Mr. Herbert Tyler, Band director, Mrs. Catherine Moore, High School Chorus director, picking out a happy tune. A VARIETY or Music, HARD woRK AND FUN isgpuja Morro . Hi ' ' Q we 2, OUR HIGH SCH OL music department offers a wonderful variety of all types of music-be it classical, standard or popular jazz. Singing is an activity and an art that we really enjoy. Now don't get the idea that Mrs. Moore doesnt make us work and that quite often she really lays us lowf' 1 Ever heard her at it? She really knows how, and it gets results, too. Q We love our music periods. We like the marvelous variety and selections of our concerts at Christmas and in our spring recital. We appreciate learning to sing in parts, and then there is that marvelous feeling of having done a job real well-our proof of this-the tremendous ovation given after a good perform- ance. We learn to love music and to express this love in our joy of singing. Our Chester High School Band is one of the outstanding marching outfits in the state. Lovely evidence of this is our large handsome silver trophy won this year. We work hard long hours to attain perfection in executing smart snappy precise patterns of marching movement and musical change. Very handsome new red and white uniforms add much to our appearance this year. Already we have been invited to march in the Charlotte Carousel, to perform between halves at the North Carolina, South Carolina Shrine Bowl Game, to play in the Charlotte Coliseum and to participate in the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington. Each spring we give a full dress musical concert that is the highlight of a year's practice.
