GIRLS ACQUIRE ESSENTIAL HOMEMAKING SKILLS H YES, we can bake a cherry pie and sew a straight seam! We can do over old furniture and decorate a room. We can read pattern directions and win a prize with our dress creations. We learn to cook an entire meal and to serve it properly. We know that an attractively decorated table adds to the attractiveness of the food. We also are aware that excellent table manners are a must. We enjoy working together in our attractive, well-furnished home economics departments. W help each other and we work in groups learning to ppt? pper, make a button hole, or cover belt buckles. Each of us selects a home project, which may be the redecoration of our own room, an improvement in our kitchen, planting shrubbery, or a flower bed. We learn the value of calories, how to plan a wellrbalanced meal, how to buy food and choose meats, how to take care of young children, and how to budget our would-be incomes when we are housewives in reality. We also stress the importance of values and give and take in this business of home-makingg and we keep first and foremost always the fact that it takes good intelligent planning to make a happy home today. I rf Mrs. Long, Miss Jo Ann Ogle, practice teacher, and Mrs. Crowder teach our home makers of tomorrow. ' mm nan : Mrs. Crowder shows us how to sew a fine seam. OUR STUDENTS BECOME INTRIGUED WITH SCIENTIFIC MYSTERIES . T O MEET today's demand for better trained scientists, our school is stressing the impor- tance of the four science courses offered to the students. Frequently the penetrating odor of for- maldehyde drifts through the halls of our build! ing. The peculiar odor of sulfur dioxide emanates from the chemistry rooms. We are quite proud of our excellent biology and chemistry labora- tories. ln our biology lab we examine parasites and bacteria under the microscope, learning work about the mysterious make-up of plants and animal life. We make individual field trips and reports on nature and out-door life that adds greatly to our knowledge and scientific interest. We gather material for display at our Science Fair. In chemistry we learn the fundamentals of this fascinating subject. We become familiar with those basic formulas H2O, H2SO,, NaCl, CAQOHJ2. We watch with wonder some of our more complicated lab experiments that reveal to us the magic of chemical changes. We study light and sound in physics. We learn the principles behind radio, electronics, magnetism, and tele- vision. Each physics student builds an electric motor that really works. We learn much about the How and Why of everyday life. Through these various science courses we appreciate more keenly the value of science in our lives today. flaw! HUF? Miss Colvin, Biology Teacher and Miss Chick, Physics and Chemist . E- Mrs. Tuggle, Mrs. Patrick, Mrs. Abell, all teach Science. Mrs. Patrick also teaches Distributive Education.
