CCD-OPERATIVE VGCATIONAI. EDUCATICDN A COURSE in co-operative vocational education was added this year to the other vocational courses otfered to the students ot the Chester l-l.gh School. Under this plan juniors and seniors have the opportunity to receive practical training through atternoon work in a chosen vocation, and at the same time complete the classroom work necessary to receive a regular high school diploma. The work is under the direction ct M. L. Banks, Jr., who serves as co-ordinator. The student's classroom work is correlated with his vocation. One sub- ject is ot directly related material, at least one other ot indirectly related material, and all other courses so arranged as to make ot him a well- developed person. The apprenticeship training is given in the business and manutacturng concerns ot the city. A detinite training plan is tollowed on the iota. Chester business men have been most co-operative. The value ot this type ot training to the student, the employer and the community will be more evident in the years to come. if wr.. .QQ 5 V. Coach FRANK HOLLIDAY . . . . . Assistant Coach l.ATE August found the Red Cyclone squad and Coach Spearman at the French Broad Camp, in North Carolina. Here the Cyclones began practice for the season. Returning from the French Broad Camp a week before school opened, the squad began their daily drill on their own field. The State Champions were out to repeat their I935 record, and on September I8th chalked up a score to the sound of 45 to O over Woodruff. Union was on the program for the following week and they also were swept aside by a 44 to O tally. On October 2nd the Cyclone squad set out for Orangeburg to play their first night game of football under floodlights. Orangeburg had always given the Chester team a close game, but again, as last year, they were defeated. As the final whistle was blown, the scoreboard read I8 for Chester and 7 for Orangeburg. Chester had played and won her first night game. The following week the Cyclones were found hard at practice for the game with Columbia. This, as the Orangeburg game, was also a night game. October 9th found the Cyclones on Melton Field against a strong Columbia eleven. The field was wet and slippery as a result of recent rains. The Columbia eleven, by playing hard ball, held the Cyclones THE B FOOTBALL SQUAD-Chester High School is I-'C l l 4 ' N K' 3 ,LQ sl 2 FOOTBALL to a 6 to 6 tie. On Wednesday of the following week the Cyclones set out for Miami, Florida, to play the powerful Miami High School. Here the team was royally entertained by the coach of the Miami team and the students of Miami. The officials of the Miami High School went to great trouble and expense to give the team an ex- Ncellent time, and the boys found it hard to express their thanks as they had never before had such a wonderful and more pleasing trip. QMATHEWS On Saturday in the beautiful city of Miami, October l7th, the Cy- Manasel clones defeated the Stingarees by the slim margin of 2 to O. The next game on the program was with Porter Military Academy of Charleston. This was an I8 to O victory for the Red Cyclones. The following week found the Cyclones again at practice for they were to meet an old rival, Gaffney, on November I3th. Gaffney had been defeated once this season, but not in the State and thus they were still in line for the State championship. Friday l3th found the Cyclones on the gridiron D. RAMSEY o. The next and last State game was played with Florence. This was declared students' day and prac- tically every student in the high school turned out tor the game. On December 4th, the Cyclones left for Asheville, N. C., to play the Asheville eleven for a four-state championship. The Cyclones played hard ball but were unable to check the powerful Asheville eleven and so met with their first defeat of the season, the score being 8 to O.
