To be Homecoming participants, stu- dents had to meet the following criteria. In their junior year they could not have had any F's or U's for a final grade, nor could they have had any suspension or excessive absences. Further, they had to be passing all classes to date; participate in class activities; and secure the approv- al of advisers, dean or counselor, and the signatures of three senior teachers. Last- ly, they had to write a short paragraph, Why I Would Like to Run for Home- coming King Queen. All in all. Homecoming was extremely memorable. The event a week prior to Thanksgiving was the culmination of hard work, competition, anxiety, and joy. 7

The morning of November 12 began with a parade headed by our mascot, The Thing, followed by sixteen contestants with escorts, class advisers, the band and auxiliary, and the Varsity and J.V. Cheerleaders. All contestants were anxiously hoping that they would be crowned King Queen later that morning. The parade departed from the faculty parking lot at 8:30 and proceeded on 9th Street to Avenue of the States, thereupon returning to proceed to 7th Street. The entourage ventured up Lamokin Street at 7th to the Athletic Field, where our game with Chichester was scheduled to commence at 10:15. During half-time Gregory Goldsmith and Carrie Freeman were crowned King and Queen. It was a moment of joy and tears. Our 1983-1984 Homecoming Queen, Carrie is the captain of the hockey team and second vice president of Student Government. Gregory, our 1983-1984 Homecoming King, is a member of the band and Star Honors Program. Our King and Queen were chosen for their composition and interview, the number of votes they sold, and their academic excellence. All the studentsw who participated received trophies, roses, and acknowledgement for their efforts and were honored with a small reception after the game.
