GPtidto The pep rally began with cheers from both varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders, Michelle Merritt and Katrina Ringgold, captains of the hockey team. After that there was a selection from the band, under the direction of Ms. Claire Fitzpatrick. We then had to give honor to the soccer team in their absence because of an away game. The cheerleaders gave us two more cheers. Then the most important part: The introduction of the Chester Clippers with their C-pride attitude. The team was intro- duced by Captains Luther Roberts, Wendell Cherry and Kenny Rodes. It was a great crowd and the pep rally was fun to attend and a boost to the team. 10

Each May our high school plays host for a city wide art show. Art teachers from each school send samples of their students' work and create a dazzling array of styles, themes, and media. The art show of '79 was one of Chester’s very best. The weeklong show was loved and enjoyed by the many students, teachers, parents who strolled among the displays. There were pictures ranging from a boy and his dog sitting on the doorstep to a twenty-four inch drawing of the Superbowl X, when Dallas did the orange crush on Denver. There was even a cardboard record player with twelve inch speakers and album and a puppet show that entertained the elementary school students who came from all over the district. The excellence of 1979’s art show made it even harder for us to wait for 1980’s show. 9
