SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In 1943, the class of '55 met for the first time and formed a tribe of twenty-two little '4Indians" who invaded the Chester Center Indian Reservation and made it their perma- nent camping ground. Mrs. Mildred Carnes Noe was the official squaw of the Indians' first tepee. The following papooses were assigned to the tepee for the initial training in Indian techniques: Nancy Blevins. Gail Feltt. Agnes Foreman. Loretta Fox. Suzanne Friar. Daniel Gephart. Glen Gilbert. Dick Harter. Charles McDaniel. Bud Miller. Phyllis Mounsey. John Murray. Linda Needler. Beverlyee Nusbaumer. Myrna Ogle. J. P. Osborn. Gerald Oswalt. Kenneth Penrod. Rex Ramseyer. Bob Zellner. Adeline Ruse. and Mary Ifer. Before the year was over Raymond McDonald. Juanita Payne. and Jimmie Williams joined our camp and before the year ended Charles McDaniel. Mary Ifer, and Jimmie Williams withdrew. In the second year of training. our squaw leader was Mrs. Esta Speece. Kenneth Penrod. Daniel Gephart, and Gail Feltt left us in the summer vacation. and Carroll Cecil and Jeanetta Keagle came riding in. Later in the year Sharon Osborn and Mary Ifer registered in our encampment. The third year our instructor was Catherine Smith Ash. Carroll Cecil. Agnes Foreman. and Dick Harter broke camp. and Fred Carnes, Terry Flowers. Vivian Lugar. Vallis McDonald, Evadean Teagle and Frank Van Camp registered. Kenneth Penrod was with us for a short time but then decided to leave. Agnes Foreman came riding in on a pony the second semester. Mrs. Grace Lillie was our squaw director for the fourth year. When we came back for the fourth year. we found that Raymond McDonald had left us. Later in the year Fred Carnes also left. Mrs. Eunice Kean was squaw teacher for both the fourth and fifth years. We lost only one papoose. Jeanetta Keagle. We gained James Bell, Ronald Clamme. Edith Coleman. Jim Harris, and Ruth Murray. Margie Hahn. Carroll Cecil and Lloyd Herndon joined us later. In the sixth year Terry Flowers left us. Jesse Foreman, Lois Wilson and Clarence Boyer became members of our camp. In our seventh and eighth grade pow-wows. we chose our personal chiefs. Mr. Oscar Diehm led us in the first year in Junior High. Lloyd Herndon and Lois Wilson left us to decrease the number on our Indian ground. Jim Bell, Jesse Foreman. Margie Hahn. and Frank Van Camp left during vacation. but when we started our eighth encampment the next fall. Wayne Millington and Orlie Uhrick had joined us. We elected Delmar Harrold as chief. There were twenty-five Indians in the Freshman Class. Our warriors and squaws who entered the main tribe this year were: Nancy Blevins. Ronnie Clamme. Agnes Foreman. Suzanne Friar. Glen Gilbert. Marjorie Hahn, James Harris, Mary lfer, Vivian Lugar. Vallis McDonald. Bud Miller, Phyllis Mounsey. John Murray. Ruth Murray. Linda Needler, Beverlyee Nus- baumer, Myrna Ogle, J. P. Osborn. Sharon Osborn. Gerald Oswalt, Juanita Payne, Rex Ramseyer, Adeline Ruse. Bobby Zehner. and one new member. Carol Zimmerman. We chose Mrs. Pat Unkenholtz as our class squaw. In the tenth year of our settlement, we had a new student, Patsy Nelson. We were very pleased with our class rings. Mr. Huber Settle was our chief warrior. In the Junior year Patsy Nelson didn't return with the rest of the '55 tribe. Later in the year Marjorie Hahn and Agnes Foreman left us. This year we presented the Junior class play, "A-Feudin' Over Yonder," under the direction of Mrs. Kathryn Foy who was our head squaw for this year through high school. On the morning of August 23, 1954. our tribe of twenty-six Seniors gathered on the reservation at old C.C.H.S. to begin the last year of a twelve year union. We elected our class squaw, Mrs. Kathryn Foy. We gained two new members. Linda Apt and Marlene Hampton. Linda Apt married a chief from Liberty Center and left us. We were disappointed when Mary Ifer didn't return to the reservation after Christmas. Through the years of our camping. we lost and gained many different Indians. There are twenty-four Indians left to bid you farewell. As we depart from our beloved Tepee and the camping grounds of Chester Center, we wish many happy hunting days to the .luniors and the classes following ours. ' We want to thank the members of the faculty for their help and patience through our stay here at Chester Center.
