Randy Park, Duane Riedel, Dan Spielmann, Eileen Kapaun, and Carol Hartman. CLASS HISTORY As we began our Freshman year, apprehension filled the air (for the faculty, that is). The apprehension was well founded. The day after registration, the Chester school building burned down. We wondered if somebody was trying to tell us something. Anyway, a week later, we gave high school another try. Facilities were relocated at Franklin and Wentworth Schools and Chester Legion Hall. From the thirty-two member class, the following were elected class officers: Dale Daniel, Greg Van Zanten, Kim McKettrick, Wendell Wickre, and Dan Spielmann. It seems our Freshman Class served as a source of inspiration for our athletic endeavors. During 1968, C.H.S. captured five conference titles. Our Sophomore year was relatively calm. Class officers were: Dale Daniel, Wendell Wickre, Carol Hartman, Rosella Crossen, and Dan Spielmann. Our Junior year found us moving to the newly completed school building at Chester on January 5, 1970. “Three Coins in a Fountain was the chosen theme for our April 1 I Junior Senior Banquet and Prom, the first to be held in our new school. Mrs. Betty Tronson was guest speaker. Music at the Prom was provided by Pandora’s Box. The final big event of the year was the presentation of our Junior Class Play entitled “The Whole Truth under the direction of Mr. Norman Rogers. Class officers were: Dale Daniel, Carol Hartman, Monte Dumke, Eileen Kapaun, and Dan Spielmann. The past year began with the planning of Homecoming activities. On September 16, Kim McKettrick and Rich Baumberger were crowned to reign over the festivities. We Seniors constructed a Homecoming Royalty Float in hopes of starting a new tradition. On September 17, C.H.S. defeated the Flandrcau Fliers to complete an ideal Homecoming. C.H.S. remained undefeated during the season on their new football field. The following Senior boys were chosen for All-Conference football: Monte Dumke, Duane Riedel, Dale Daniel, and Randy Park. A mystery comedy, “Finders Creepers was presented by members of the Senior Class on November 20. Play director was Mr. Larry Haas. On March 2, 1971, we journeyed to Pierre for the annual Senior trip to the South Dakota State Legis- lature. A class car wash to raise money was held on April 10, in the school parking lot. The day was not only fun, but also proved to be a big success as many of the area people wished to have their cars shining for Easter on the following day. A final “get-together was held on May 12 at Lake Herman. We had a big picnic followed by a soft-ball game, and other such tom-foolery. On May 16 and 20, the thrilling and also sentimental and sad Graduation activities took place. May 16 Baccalaureate was held with Reverend William Ellis as guest speaker. May 20 Commencement was held in the gymnasium at 8:00 P.M. Guest speaker for the night was Mr. Gordon Nelson. Red. white, and blue were class colors. The motto was “We enter a world of promise, with hope for a world of peace. 4
