-wa 5 A,., W . 9.9,-.... .,,, ..,, QT? What a team! This year the Cheshire girls' basketball team continued its winning streak which ended last year in the quarter-finals of the state tournament. Losing no se- niors, the team came back with more strength, experience, depth, and talent. Posting a 17-3 record, the Housatonic Tournament champions entered the state tournament with the best record in the league, including regular and post- season play. Cheshire's first line of attack included senior co-captains Beth in your face Pearsall, and Patty Play Maker Gallagher, senior Brenda Sky Prentice, junior Anne Spunky Salvatore and sophomore sensation Brid- get Brosnahan. Pearsall leads the team in scoring, rebound- ing, and blocked shots and is only the third girl in Chesh- ire's history to score 1,000 points. Gallagher's on-the-mark shooting and passing has made her second in scoring and leading in assists while Prentice, able to steal and rebound in a single bound, is Cheshire's leading defensive threat. Salvatore adds spunk to the game with her upbeat, scrappy style of play while Brosnahan makes her presence known under the boards with aggrresive moves and rebounds. As strong as the starting five may seem, they are only the surface of the talent of the team. Without hesitation Coaches Cynthia Hitchcock and William Demaida turned to senior Diane Pagano, juniors Meredith Firepointer Shea, Ioselyn Make Her Pay Keough, Ien McAwesome McGowan, Michelle Extraordino Giordino, and sopho- mores Debbie Three Pointer Benzel and Bev Greatly Improved Griffiths. The team extends special thanks to senior Saskia Schweitzer whose presence will be missed as a great man- ager, to both hardworking coaches and all the parents and other fans who have followed Cheshire all the way to the top!
