After another slow start, the Cheshire High boys' basketball team rebound- ed to win twelve straight Housatonic League games, including decisive victo- ries over rivals Branford and Shelton. As the season came down to its final weeks Cheshire was upended by Valley powers Seymour and Shelton. Their winning streak was good enough to gain the second seed in the league tourna- ment. Cheshire was led by scoring sophomore Matt Curtis and captains Chris Woods and Chris Whalen. Ryan Richard started all year at center and led the team in rebounding. Andy Narducci came off the bench to provide quality minutes in crucial games. Also this year's team helped Coach Nick Carparelli attain his one hundredth career victory 166 1 Sports '? 1 .3 k .... .pgyyy s wt gg ' Q it X P X me

A p it The Cheshire High School boys' swimming team swam to another successful season under the coaching of Ed As- ton. The team finished with a well-earned record of 9-5. All five losses came to highly ranked teams. Captained by the ironfists of Anthony Tremaglio and Sean Farrell, the Rams were able to place a respectable second in the Housatonic League. Seniors Kevin Bunting and Ion Celeste also assisted with their leadership in the team's attempt to capture the Class L state title. Mike Tartaglione and Tom Denne had excellent seasons as juniors and are looking forward to their return to the team as seniors next year. Sophomore Matt Sobolewski chose to stick with swimming and was rewarded with great improvement in all strokes. Diving Coach Andy Clark had only one diver to work with, Iordan Vinarub. Starting from scratch, they worked long hours to give the added support the team needed in the critical meets. As a whole, the team saw their domination of the water slow to a temporary halt because of stiffer competition. This, however, brought the team closer together and forced the members to work even harder. In the future the team will continue to need the support of each valuable member to conquer the obstacles they will face in such a demanding sport. Sports I 165
