-as 1' EF? -A VA J L-if The 1987 season was the best ever in the history of Cheshire High School Swimming. All of the girls received state recogni- tion since the team's season record was 12-0. It also won the Housatonic League Championship and title and defeated de- fending Class L Champs CGreenwichJ twice during the season. As this year's team moved up to Class L division, it also won this title. In fact, there was not a meet in the season that the girls did not win and they became the first team ever in the history of Cheshire High School athletics to win a state open title. The team was led by senior captains Beth Barletta, Cathleen Buchan- an, and Stephanie Selvidge. The high-spirited emotions of the seniors, who achieved their highest goals in their final year, made the 1987 season one which the swimmers will never for- get. At the Fall Sports Banquet, awards were presented to several of the swimmers. Melissa Ezer was voted the Most Improved, Beth Barletta received recognition as the Outstanding Diver, Maria Furmonavicius and Laura Bunting were voted the Most Valuable Players, Stephanie Selvidge received the Junior Women's Club Award, and lean Evans won the Coaches' Award. .
