Despite several injuries and an offense that was ineffective at times, the Rams were able to hold their own in the perrenially competitive Housa- tonic League. The Rams offensive ground game was powerful, running behind a front five that weighed in at better than a ton. The offensive unit came into their own toward the end of the season when they began running the option which uti- lized their talent most efficiently Defense was one of the Ram's bright spots this season. On the average they allowed less than 13 points per game. The hard hitting 5-2 defense re- corded 2 shut outs, something the Rams were not able to do once in '86, Although there were many disappointments for the Ram's Varsity Football team in 1987, there were equally as many thrills, from the destruction of Lyman Hall at night, at home, to the come from behind victory in the final minute of play on Thanksgiving Day Sports I 155

The Cheshire High School soccer team, under the direction of coaches Hans and Niko van Yipprin, finished the season with an impressive 13-2-1 record. The team fought strongly throughout the season and was rewarded with the Housatonic League Title. They also played in the quarter-finals of the Class LL State Championships. The title would not have been won without excellent teamwork. Team captains Chris Black and Iay jackson brought the team together. Seniors Matt Berube, Nick Duchesne, and Matt Kelleher also gave quality playing time for the team, not to mention all the other team players who made the unit a success. At the Boosters Club-sponsored dinner, Chris Black received the Kiwanis Sportsmanship Award, Corey Feldstein was voted as the Most Improved Player, and Iay Iackson was recognized as the Most Valuable Player. With a promising group of juniors, next year's season looks promising also. What a bunch of world beaters! Sports X 157
