National Honor Society The National Honor Society led by President Teresa Yeung, Vice-President Betsy Kelly, and Advisor Mrs. Mancinelli, is a group of high-achieving students who consistently maintain a gradepoint average of at least 3.6. They also excel in leadership and character and perform service for the community Some of their activities include peer tutoring, helping with the food drive, and giving food bas- kets to needy families at Thanksgiving. The group plans to have a field trip to New York in the spring and to host the now annual Senior Citizens' day at CHS. .af-NN l g,,7 'CTD A T . ii , A' A . High School Bowl This year the High School Bowl team competed in the computer bowl, finish- ing third in the state of Connecticut and defeating Choate's team. The members of the team are looking forward to an All- Housatonic League competition. Coached by Mr. schaefer, the team includes Bill Buckman, Kim Cashman, Kevin Dayton, Donna Fitzgerald, Cindy Gayda, Char- lotte Giddings, Betsy Kelly and Marice Rose. l42!Clubs and Activities National French Honor Society Recherche is the name of the CHS chapter of the National French Honor Society It is a group composed, this year, of three French students who have main- tained an A-average for two years of French study This year's members are Donna Fitzgerald, Kim Cashman, and Marice Rose. The motto of this group is La personne qui sait deux langues en vaut deux. fThe person who knows two languages is worth two people.J

Ski Racing Team The Cheshire High School Ski Racing Team is a group of skiers who meet every Wednesday at 4:30 at Mount Southington to compete. At each meet team members race against the members of teams from two other area high schools. They make two runs, each taking approximately thirty seconds. The club was formed in the winter of 1985 by jason Foote and Mark Iohnson. E.C.A. Students E.C.A. Students attend the Educational Center for the Arts in New Haven as part of their high school curriculum. They study for two hours at the Center from Monday through Thursday This gives these young artists two credits each. At the Center, they each study the one disci- pline in an artistic field which they enjoy the most. The students are Kathy Espos- ito, visual artsg Seth Greenspan, theaterp Robert Kautzg photographyg and Chris Occhalini, music. Missing from photo are Robert Kautz and Chris Occhalini. we Sill. -1.-we Captains' Club This year Mr. Dodig has instituted a new organization at Cheshire High School. The Captains' Club includes all of the varsity captains of CHS sports teams. The members help out with various school activities, such as monitoring the halls and the lavatories. They have been awarded small pins as a token. One of the benefits for the Captains is the fact that they are admitted free to all CHS sports events. New England Math League The New England Math League is a series of competitions designed to chal- lenge students who are interested and talented in mathematics. Six one-half hour tests are held throughout the school year. For the class of 1988, Scott Villa attained the highest score in the class' freshman, sophomore, and junior years. Go, Scott! National Merit Semi-Finalists - Matt Barnes, Betsy Boland, Kim Cash- i man, Ion Celeste, Ieff Chin, Kevin Day- ton, Anthony DePaolo, Sheryl Ehrlich, Charlotte Giddings, Seth Greenspan, Betsy Kelly Ed Lau, Tal Saraf, and Scott Villa have been named by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as Com- mended Students. This is based on their PSAT scores, which placed them in the top 50,000 of 1,000,000 students who took the test. The Corporation has also named Kris Otto and Marice Rose as Semi-Final- ists. They were among the 15,000 stu- dents who had the highest scores, and they will compete for Merit Scholarships. The program is the nation's larges inde- pendently-owned scholarship program, T and it is in its thirty-third year of exis- tence. Awards Harvard Book Award: Charlotte E.
