Football 1967 VARSITY AND j.V. FOOTBALL TEAMS .ui Co-Captains Paul Pasqualoni and James Dinnan did a great job in making a sucessful team. Both boys made The Housatonic League team. Coach MaClary led both the boys and the school to victory. Cheshire OPPOIICDF 6 Amity 27 8 North Haven 13 20 East Haven 14 24 Seymour 12 14 Branford 0 29 Plainville 0 O Derby 6 24 Shelton 6 37 Wallingford 6 56 This year's football season was the best ever. Our final record was 6-3 but this doesn't even half indocate how great this team was. The spirit of both the players and the students made the season a truly happy one. The season began on a disappointing note, with our first two losses to Amity and North Haven, but then we started. The day was dull and rainy, but not the spirit, on this day we beat East Haven, who were to be league champs and only us as the team who beat them. We were truly proud and continued our feel- ing. On our home field we remained undefeated. Our only other loss was to Derby, which was a heartbreaking 6-0. We ended the season with a big success beating Lyman Hall 57-6 for our Homecoming Game. All players on the team did a terrific job. Both Co-Captains Paul Pasqua- loni and James Dinnan were named to the Housatonic League Team and 2nd String All- State Team. Also Paul Pasqualoni became the first to be named the Register Player of the Week. The '67 football team was really great and the seniors will remember it for a long time to come. 37-B

Cacaptain Paul Pasqualoni of Cheshire High way galaet of-tho-Week in recognition oi his standout performance at Rams' 24-6 victory over Shelton on Saturday. By DAVE ALLEN Register Staff Reporter 1 Cheshire coach Dave Maclary doesn't claim that the Ram de- lfcnse corps is the toughest in ,the Housatonic League, only that there is none better. He will argue though that mid- dle linebackcr Paul Pasqualoni has no superior. The Register Player of the Week recovered two fumbles and flashed his sixth interception of the season Schrurnn breaks into the secondary. -Saturday in the 24-6 victory over Shelton. It was a banner week for the defense. Other Player selections -could have gone to Branford's lsophomore tackle Bob Arotsky lor East Havens Ron Frangi, lQuarterback Mike Carroll of 'Derby and George Dimitruck of 'Jonathan Law shone on offense. Cheshire started rolling to its first winning year since 1961 'when Maclary shifted Pasqualo- ni to middle linebacker in the 'last half of the North Haven lgame. This year he introduced ga new 6-3-3 defense and I was lafraid we'd have to get out of it ,until I shifted Pasqualoni to l middle linebacker. l The Rams iooked erratic in ,the 276 opening defeat to Ami- Xty. They lost 13-8 to North Hav- en also, but the last half, Pas- qualonifs indoctrination period, paid off immediately. East Haven fell 20-14 the ncxt week with Pasqualoni keying on Mike Zito. Nc-xt time, the 130 lpounder's victim was roll-out artist Jack Moresko of Seymour, The Rams shut down Joe Rober- ti of Branford's option running. iThe defense wasn't at fault in the S-D Derby defeat. Last Satur- iday, the hard-nose boys recov- ered six Shelton fumbles and l l l ,intercepted twice in blanketing iShelton's offense. I Regarding Pasqualoni's prow- iess for fumble recoveries, Mac- .lary says he's supposed to. lThe defense is built around him. From tackle to tackle, hes sup- Wposed to be on every play and ,wherever the hall is, is usually iwhcre you find him. , Maclary feels recording num- Kbers of tackles a waste, If 'someone is breaking down, we -want to know why, thats what's important. The films do show us though that if he is -knocked down, the other team gains on us. But he usually smells out the carrier. Maclary's finest defensive group since he took over the helm in 1956 has given up only ....- 'rn A-.---.:..-i.. 1- it., is.. ed this woek's Register Pllyur- centor and linebacker in tho , lsize you should be able to crip- iple anybody on the field. Pretty 'soon he was screaming and' fired up, l As luck would have. Shelton' ran at Pearsall, The Ram de-1 fense finally produced its sixth' fumble recovered by right line-l backer junior John Richards. f The front six. left to right, are, 3Mike Votto or Brad Holtz, Din-l lnan, Rich Walesky and Pearslll who stood out in the East Havenl lgame, tackle Tom Eibensteinenl 220 and almost immovable, and. Dan Benwell. f I Jocko Pelcher and Richardsl Iside Pasqualoni. The deep men iare Lee Moulton and Bob Smith. . l When not calling the 5 stunts on defense, Pasqualo- ni shifts to center. He cleared his opposite at the line andl ,made the downfield block Satur-l day that sprung Moulton's first, score. Pasqualonis resilient. He' hurt a hand in the Plainviilei ,victory in which he intercepted! :two passes and recovered al fumble but stayed in the lineup. : l My job is to get in there and lkill the play.
