X 15 September 11, 1966, saw 30 girls enter through the doors of C O for the first time. The first few weeks saw us gathering in groups, getting to know each other and anxiously awaiting until we could enter college to begin our training as student nurses. In April of 1967, twenty-two of us received our caps in a ceremony at the First Christian Church. Twenty-one of us received our Junior stripes upon return from vacation in September, 1967. December saw the class splitting in half to begin our first affiliation — Baltimore and some wonderful times. In June, we were all back together after six months, only to affiliate to U. Va. in Charlottesville. Never will we forget the unbearable heat! September of 1968 marked the Senior year for eighteen of us, all wearing our black band which proved us ready for our last affiliation. Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Ours was the first class and it proved to be a wonderful experience in the big city. Here, it took all of two minutes to give a bath and the rest of the day was spent chasing the “little people’’ around, and tactfully ducking when a spoonful of cereal headed your way. We also got to know every shop in downtown Detroit and here we spent endless hours and a vast amount of money. September 7, 1969 . . . it finally arrived! Seventeen proud but weary Seniors received their diplomas and pins, thus marking the end of the trail that was three years long. Now we can say “When we were students ...” Sponsors Mrs. Savage Miss Pitzer 16 To one who has helped us through many trials and tribulations of the past three years we would like to say, “Thank jyou, Mr. Robert Garland Hughes.” Without his warm friendship, friendly shoulder, and a door always open to his home, our journey would have been much harder. PERSPECTIVE The problems of the moment And the pressures of the present Seem to stir my memory dormant And the past seems all too pleasant I feel very pushed and pressed And 1 long for bygone days, And this burning in my breast Yearns for plainer, simpler ways But, lest my dreams become possessive. And a substitute for deeds, must see the past regressive And assess my present needs. I must sense the future ready And as yet a white, blank page. “Take the past and present steady; Write new futures, ” saith the sage. RGH 17 Class Flower: Yellow Rose Class Motto: Some men see things as they Are and say WHY; I dream things that never were And say WHY NOT? May Each Day May each day in the week be a good day. May the Lord always watch over you, And may all of your hopes turn to wishes. And may all your wishes come true. May each day in the month be a good day, May you make friends with each one you meet, And may all your daydreams be memories. And may all your memories be sweet. The weeks turn to months, and months into years, There’ll be sadness and joy, there’ll be laughter And tears, But one thing we pray to the heavens above. May each of your days be a day full of love. May each day in the year be a good day, May each dawn find you happy and gay, And may all of your days be as lovely as the One you shared with me today. May each day of your life be a good day. And good night. 18 uniors Obstetrics Problem Solving Improving Techniques Psychiatry 19 v ' .iSi vO. 5 ' uniors Officers Pres. ... V. Pres. . Sect. . . . Treas. . . S.C. Rep. . J. Mills . . R. As we as Juniors look back over 1968 and toward 1969, we recall the past with mixed emotions, and we foresee the future as a challenge. There have been many achievements over the past year. Our life as Juniors began the day we proudly marched onto our assigned wards displaying two black stripes on a cap which days before was solid white. There was our first Junior class meeting, our election of officers, our bake sales and our first affiliation. Among these memories which we all possess are also individual memories of friendships and gatherings that each Junior had experienced and which each will long remember. Day by day, hour by hour, 1969 has held something new and different for us. We started 1969 separated as a group, half on affiliation, half at our home school. But we never became separated as a class. We are growing in the understanding of our destinies as we learn to confront our problems, big or small. We attempt to reach our challenges with an open mind and enthusiastic spirit. Now our faces are turned from the past into the future. What the future holds remains to be seen, but our ultimate goal is that we become Seniors, Graduates, and then Registered Nurses.
