We have tried to compile all the hap¬ penings of our Senior year so that in years to come when the memories of our Student Nursing days have become dim, may this book wherein we have endeavored to im¬ prison the spirits of our alma mater, revive in our hearts once more her ideals and bind all together in a common love and loyalty to her. May The Aeneid” always serve to re¬ mind you of happy days and always signify a job as one of honest effort and stability. We, the Seniors of 1957, do proudly dedicate the 1957 AENEID TO YOU - OUR PARENTS In sincere appreciation of your untiring efforts and faithful, sympathetic understanding as we ven¬ tured along life’s pathway, we, the Seniors, humbly express our gratitude. We feel that the verses found on the following page express our feelings, and although written by an unknown author, they express our sentiments toward you. Our Parents Mother. . . The stretch of the years is now long past Since I was your baby girl The years when you mended a broken doll Or smoothed down a straying curl. I ' ve come since then to a woman ' s place To my graduation day. I ' m a nurse - and the dream of my childhood hours Stands achieved - and my heart is gay. But mother, I know I could never have won If your love hadn’t helped me along. I who was always so weak on the way You who were ever so strong. Dad... To-day I’m a nurse - it seems only a dream I can hardly believe that it ' s true. My training is done - I have come to the end And my first grateful thought is of you. You, my father, who helped me so much on the way; You whose love and whose faith was so strong. Yours the kindness, the courage, the praise that was there In times when the way seemed so long. Your love and your help, and your kindly praise These followed me through the years. A million thanks well up from my heart God bless you - your joy and your tears. You are my model - you my ideal Yours - ever the love that was true. God couldn ' t be with me all of the time So He gave me a mother like you. And mother, if ever around my neck The arms of a baby twine I only ask God to be like unto you. You - little mother of mine. I know that you ' re proud. Dad, to-day as you see Your nurse - just so late your wee tot But my pride in you, Dad, rings as strong in my heart God love you - and bless you a lot. This is only a verse - just a thank you in rhyme But its accents are happy and glad. For it tells of the love that in gratitude comes From a graduate nurse to her Dad. THE FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE PLEDGE I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly: To pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully. I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession, and will hold in confidence all personal matters com¬ mitted to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my profession. In testimony whereof We, the said Graduating Class, do hereby cause this will to be signed and sealed on this, the twelfth day of September, 1957, A. D. Prophecy June 4, 1967 Paris, France Dear Leota, I certainly was surprised and pleased to see you again after ten years. It really has been a long time. Bill and I have been in Paris for two years and it seemed impossible to see a familiar face after so long. Your life has certainly been interesting, you have traveled all over the world, and you say you’re still looking for the man of your life, The substantial things. I do wish you good fortune in Snake River, Idaho. Before I left for Paris, I met with some of the girls in our class, so now I will try to catch you up on happenings since we were together. My dear roommate, Libby Huggard, now has her Master’s Degree in Psychiatry and is Supervisor of Spring Grove State Hospital, and she married a dang yankee. Georgina Nicol never quite made the cowgirl movie star she often dreamed of becoming; instead, she married Ron and they have a big horse ranch in Ken¬ tucky, with three lovely children. Faye Bartley also married a Kentuckian and they live in Florida. Faye has given up nursing and has turned to a singing career, but that has been delayed because they now have a little girl. Hazel Farrar has three children and will be the Educational Director at C. O. when Miss Ricks retires. Pat Zicafoose still can’t make up her mind which Tom, Dick, or Harry it will be. She is working as an Office Nurse in Dr. LeHew ' s office in Lewisburg. Donna Davis finally decided, with the help of a three carat diamond, Marvin was the one she loved. They have been married a year and Marvin is Chief Medical Doctor at C. O., and Donna is now the Superintendent of Nurses. Elva June Phillips will start her Chief Residency in Pediatrics at C. O. this year, under Dr. Edmunds. Bill is still waiting for her. Madalyn Smith has forgotten what Nursing is, she will marry her sixth hus¬ band next month. He is R. C. Hayslett, formerly of Clifton Forge, who now owns the biggest oil well in Texas. Ruby Thomas married her little Frenchman, they live in Colorado and have two children. Ruby only does volunteer community nursing these days. Two weeks after graduation, Marion Shumate married Earl, and they have three sets of twin boys. Marion decided that Clifton Forge wasn’t such a bad place to live after all. Nona King married Otmer and they are doing missionary work in China. They haven ' t been home for three years. Joyce Mills is Surgical Nurse for her husband in their Hospital, the Twinkling Star, in Texas. She finally made it to Texas. Marion Chandler is living in Beckley, W. Va. ; she and Richard have started a nursery of their own, they have six girls. Janice Rucker lives in Covington and is doing only family nursing and says it ' s a full time job. She and Pee Wee have four children. I think that about covers our little group. I do hope all of us will be able to get together this fall for our reunion. It will be nice to see everyone once again.
