Our Leader ii fb u .4 p' Q Q rx ft Chesapeake 's First Cougar. Tom Russ is m Dean Of Students 1 Thomas E. Russ, Dean of Students, in 1966 founded Chesapeake College because he felt there was a need for small institutions where students could have a sense of iden- tity and be treated as individuals. His idea grew from an idea to the complex we now have. Mr. Russ was educated at the University of Michigan and Florida Southern College and is currently enrolled in the graduate program at' the College of William and Mary. He is very active in civic affairs to aid the community as well as the College . Mr. Russ imbodies all that a student values in a college administrator and friend. He is currently making plans for expansion of the college, which in total completness, should accomodate approximately six hundred students. 8

Allan MitCh6ll President if pf f R fi ' Sn 1 ' i x il I l 7 Allan W. Mitchell, president of the College, joined the College in the fall of 1967 after retirement from the United States Army. He attended Bowdoin College in Maine where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1935, In 1940 he joined the Army National Guard as a Private and upon his retirement had attained the rank of Colonel. Prior to retirement from the service, he entered the graduate program at the College of William and Mary where he received the Master of Education Degree in Administra- tion of 1962, I-Ie took further graduate Work in the field of History at Old Dominion University. Colonel Mitchell is active in civic affairs in his community and is a member of several organizations.

LUTHER SHIPMAN Mr. Shipman joined the staff of the College on a full-time basis lasttfall. He previously taught for two summer sessions at Chesa- peake. He is always happy to sit down with students and help them with their problems. As the Registrar he has the terrible responsi- bility of maintaining our grade records. UCI-I! His efforts are many times fraught with despair but he feels that over a period of time the Courgars in all their endeavors will bring fame and glory to the College.
