Lenoir Rhyne College M.A. Appalachian State University What are you going to do with tomorrow? The answer is up to you. Thus far in your life many of your decisions have been made or influenced by your family, your teachers, your administrators, your church and your friends. But the time is fast approaching w hen you, and you alone, will be responsi- ble for the direction in which you will steer your life. In thinking of tomorrow, I always remember a special passage which has meant much to me during my career in education. This I would like to share with you. I EXPECT to pass through this world but once; any good thing, therefore, that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow-crea- ture, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again. So I say to you, make today count, for it is the first day of the rest of your life. You cannot re-live yesterday, and you cannot foresee tomorrow; however, you can make today count because what you do today is the foundation of your TOMORROW. Always remember, no one can make you feel inferior but yourself, and the world will stand aside to let you pass if you know where you are going. In facing tomorrow, I would like to leave with you some rules for ABUNDANT LIVING. f PRAY: It is the greatest power on earth. | LOVE: It is a God given privilege. . READ: It is the fountain of wisdom. . .'{HINK: It is the source of power. BE FRIENDLY: It is the road to happiness. _ GIVE: It is too short a day to be selfish. PLAY: It is the secret of perpetual youth. LAUGH: .- It is the music of the soul. WORK: It is the price of success. | Assistant Principal MR. NATHAN GRAY HALL A.A. With their encouragement, students have developed talents and an appreciation for music that would other- r tre ¢ ego wise have remained latent. In dedicating our annual to you, we want to say “Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Billy P. Sneed 29 30 In Memoriam David Scott Pfeifer April 1, 1956 — April 30, 1973 ’” “You're achild of the universe. . . To some, these words are meaningless, but to our former classmate they held a special meaning. The significance of this phrase is known only to Scott. As we hold the memory of Scott Pfeifer in our hearts and minds, we recall his unforgettable personality which enlightened our eleven years of schooling with him. Scott possessed a brilliant mind with which he was destined to go far in this world. His various talents in music and poetry brought happiness and laugh- ter to each of his friends. Scott lived every day to the fullest extent, trying to grasp the many pleasures life affords. . On a beautiful day in April, David Scott Pfeifer left this earth to join his Father above. Though it may be hard for us to accept the tragic loss of our beloved Scott, we must remember he is now free of the problems we encounter. Thus we hold Davia Scott Pfeifer in memoriam. It was the first to require that the flag of the country should be displayed and saluted in our castle halls. It was the first to start to raise a fund for our soldiers and their dependents in the great World War. It was the first to purchase Liberty Bonds. it was the first to open its doors to boys eighteen years of age. !t was the first fraternal order to say that its ritual could be printed only in the English language. The Order of Knights of Pythias OFFICIAL DECLARATION OF PRINCIPLES Pythian knighthood had its conception in the exemplifi- cation of the life test of true friendship existing between Damon and Pythias. Friendship, or mutual confidence, being the strongest bond of union between man and man, and only existing where honor has an abiding place, is adopted as a foundation principle. As the ideal knight of olden time was the personification of all the higher and nobler attributes of man’s nature, the candidite for knighthood had to prove himself worthy of ac- ceptance by those who valued friendship, bravery, honor, justice and loyalty. The Order of Knights of Pythias—founded in Friendship, Charity and Benevolence, which it proclaims as its cardinal! principles—strives to gather into one mighty fraternity worthy men who appreciate the true meaning of friendship; who are cautious in word and act; who love truth; who are brave in defending right; whose honor is untarnished; whose sense of justice will prevent, to the best of their ability, a personal act Or word injurious to the worthy; whose loyalty to principle, to family, to friends, to their country and to the constituted authority under which they enjoy citizenship is undoubted; and who, at all times, are prepared to do unto others as they would that others should do unto them. 203 Inc. mills (R) ree y = W) CLEVELAND APPLIANCE AND FURNITURE Lae Mee wy AL pg, vets re) ’ bye al : Cherryville Phone: 435-5302 a = Sor PPR ag ht rc e nme e Time Roepe mmen me + oem 205 UPCHURCH MOBILE HOME ESTATES 206 MEADE KNITTING MILLS INC.
