Dedication During your eight years at Cherry Valley Central School, you have helped many students prepare for facing the future. You have been not only a teacher to us, but a friend as well. You have inspired many of us to work conscientiously and honestly. You have given and asked nothing in return. Many times you have not even received a simple thank you” for your efforts and con- tributions. At this time, we, the class of 1968, wish to express our thanks for your guidance and direction during the past two years. In 1740 Rev. Samuel Dunlop led seven families into a vast wilderness and established a settlement that was to become Cherry Valley. Savage massacres in 1778 and 1780 destroyed the labor of 40 years, the land returned to the birds and beasts and no vestige of the former prosperous settlement re- mained. Important and significant history, but we cannot live in the past. Of greater significance than the events themselves is the fact that the survivors of the massacres returned to their former homes and built a larger and more prosperous community. This perserverance and determination in the face of great hardship should be an inspiration for us today. Life is seldom easy but today’s society attempts to prepare its young people for the arduous tasks of adult life through the best edu- cational system that the world has ever known. How will you perservere? Are you taking full ad- vantage of your opportunities so that you can successfully meet the challenges of today and continue to build for a greater tomorrow? Your teachers are eager to work with you and to help you meet the challenge and to succeed. They are your friends. Honor and respect them.
