Vv.i% flbT r QRa+ooQoii i a eft jal 1 , N eui Editors9 Message No matter how old you are, you will always remember your school years, for during those years your ambitions were planted and preparations made for your future. These prepara- tions brought many 'sorrows, but the joys and satisfactions of high school greatly overbalanced the disappointments. The yearbook staff has attempted to create the 1967 Karatongan in such a way that memories of your school life will flood back to you as each new page is turned. We sincerely hope that you will enjoy your Mementos of the Valley” and that you will never forget this school and its faculty which has both guarded and guided your education. Karatongan Staff Left to right: ROW 1, C. Ottman, Layout; K. Short, Sports; C. Havens, Typing; R. Johnson, Editor; R. Perry, Business Manager; ROW 2, Mr. Drake, Advisor; J. Blumenstock, Photography; G. Quay, Activities Advisory Staff Left to right: ROW 1, D. Keller, L. Prill, M. VanDerwerker, S. Cooper, J. Ryder, S. Leonard, R. Johnson, Editor Dedication During your eight years at Cherry Valley Central School, you have helped many students prepare for facing the future. You have been not only a teacher to us, but a friend as well. You have inspired many of us to work conscientiously and honestly. You have given and asked nothing in return. Many times you have not even received a simple thank you” for your efforts and con- tributions. At this time, we, the class of 1968, wish to express our thanks for your guidance and direction during the past two years. The best possible way we have of expressing this ap- preciation is by offering this book, the 1967 Karatongan, to our advisor, Mr. Donald Drake In 1740 Rev. Samuel Dunlop led seven families into a vast wilderness and established a settlement that was to become Cherry Valley. Savage massacres in 1778 and 1780 destroyed the labor of 40 years, the land returned to the birds and beasts and no vestige of the former prosperous settlement re- mained. Important and significant history, but we cannot live in the past. Of greater significance than the events themselves is the fact that the survivors of the massacres returned to their former homes and built a larger and more prosperous community. This perserverance and determination in the face of great hardship should be an inspiration for us today. Life is seldom easy but today’s society attempts to prepare its young people for the arduous tasks of adult life through the best edu- cational system that the world has ever known. How will you perservere? Are you taking full ad- vantage of your opportunities so that you can successfully meet the challenges of today and continue to build for a greater tomorrow? Your teachers are eager to work with you and to help you meet the challenge and to succeed. They are your friends. Honor and respect them. Administration District Superintendent Vice Principal MR. For many of you the carefree days of your required formal education are over. The importance of furthering your abilities through higher education cannot be over-emphasized. Self-determination and the ability to face reality can go a long way in obtaining your goals. Good honest hard work, a clear conscience in your daily life, a cheerful smile, and a friendly greeting are mile posts along the roadway to success. You, and you alone, are the only one who can negotiate this roadway. In closing, I would like to quote the motto of the State Univer- sity of New York: “Let Each Become All He is Capable of Being.” Think about it! MRS. I lived with a wonderful family on their farm, consisting of about 60 acres, with 10 cows, a few pigs and cats, and a dog, I shall never forget those 2 1 2 months of wonderful memories. 1 have the Rotary, and you, my fellow school- mates, to thank for making my summer possible. Thank you. iCL jUJsdtt tt, MARJORIE WILSON I live in Medellin, Columbia. My city, having 1,000,000 inhabitants, is the second largest city. We don’t have sea- sons and the temperature all year is between 60 to 70 degrees. I will study to be a bilingual secretary in the University Medellin. I like the United States very much because the people are very friendly and kind. I admire this country’s ad- vancement..
