C_ cxS Table of Contents Administration 7 Faculty 11 Primary 15 Junior High 23 Senior High 27 Seniors 31 Organizations 45 Sports 55 Advertisements 61 Our Heritage Fifty years ago the part of the building now occupied by the junior high was officially opened. At that time there were 200 students in the primary through high school grades. Many of the same courses were offered that are offered today including algebra, geometry, social studies, English and agri- culture. Instruction was also given in physical education. There was also a laboratory for physics and chemistry. The library numbered 1400 volumes with a large collection on American History. The aim of the school was to develop character and make students honest, accurate and energetic workers. This was the source of the great river of knowledge that was to follow. Now, in 1963, as the river rushes on, we can see the tremendous gains made during the past 50 years. marks the beginning of an individual's school activity. Our faculty provides the stimuli to send the stream on its way. Gathering speed throughout the primary grades, the stream suddenly hits rapids, the confusion of junior high. The rapids suddenly become a raging waterfall, the brisk pace of our memorable high school years. Graduation at last! The stream of life flows on to the sea of knowledge which is the heritage of America. ROW 1: J. Alpaugh, Mrs. Nielsen, S. Blumenstock, J. Webb. ROW 2: N. Snyder, L. Cramer, A. Johnson, M. Semrov, N. Harrington. Thank You During thirty-two years of teaching, of which twenty-two have been at Cherry Valley, you have been the advisor to at least one thousand students. Our class has been fortunate to have been part of this group. Your untiring efforts have contributed to the character of the school and of the community. Wishing to express our sincere gratitude for your guidance and under- standing, we, the Class of 1964, dedicate our yearbook, the 1963 Karatongan, to you. We realize that you, Mrs. Jessie Nelson, are more than worthy of this honor and tribute. Chief of the Warriors When duty whispers low, 'Thou must,' the Youth replies, T can. ’ Each year as June draws near and another class prepares to leave the Cherry Valley Central School, it is the hope of the Faculty that in some small way they have contributed to the needs of each graduate. They are naturally concerned with the knowledge that they have tried to impart to each individual. However, they realize that in twelve short years they have been able to give only a basis for the learning that must continue throughout the life of each person. They are equally concerned with the fundamentals of character which they hope they have been able to develop so that each individual will be better prepared to meet the many duties and responsibilities of life; not only the duties and responsibilities of civic and political life but the duties and responsibilities to one's own self. The immediate success earned by a pupil during the twelve years of formal, public school education is expressed by a more or less meaningless grade. The real success will be evident only in the years that lie ahead as they add their contributions to the prosperity of our country. To the Class of 1963 - Good luck, and may God be your guide. Foreign Exchange Program During the summer of 1962, Linda Cramer was privileged to be chosen by the local Rotary Club as a foreign exchange student to Panama City, Panama. She was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Victor A. Young. While in Panama, she visited the Sand Bias Islands, Taboga, and the Panama Canal. She also spent three days in the Panamanian jungle on the Chagres River. During the winter of 1963, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cramer were the hosts to Miss Raquel Toretta from Santa Fe, Argentina. While in the United States, Raquel visited New York, Washington D. C. , Miami Beach and the local places of interest. She was a guest of the Spanish Club at the State University College of Education at Oneonta, New York. The Rotary Club and the Student Council will continue this program during the summer of 1963. It is our hope that this program will broaden the student's mental horizon. The use of traveling is to regulate imagination by reality and instead of thinking how things may be, to see them as they are. -----Samuel Johnson Varsity Basketball K. Young, J. Camp, S. Rezen, K.
