THE JUNIOR CLASS OP 1951+ PRESENTS THE KARA TONG-AH of CHERRY VALLEY CENTRAL SCHOOL CHERRY VALLEY, NEW YORK FOREWORD To the Seniors in this class of 1951+, the memories tucked away in these pages are treasures that will never depreciate, but grow lovelier and more sacred as Time marks off the passing years on His endless calendar. When, as men and women, we turn again these pages, glimpsing faces so familiar to us in our school days but long since forgotten; when scenes from our high school life again flood the minds that have long been devoid of these reminiscences--then shall the KARATONGAH achieve its paramount value. Dedication It Is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, 0 most High: To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night; Upon an instrument of ten strings and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound. For thou. Lord, hast made me glad through thy work; I will triumph in the works of thy hands. Psalm 92. ALMA MATER Where the hills’ round Cherry Valley Meet the deep blue sky Nestled down among the valleys Stands our dear old high. Chorus: Cherry Valley High we'll sing Tell of deeds we've done. Tell of victories, love and spirit, Bonds which make us one. Many, many are the classes Nurtured in thy halls, Alma Mater thou art mistress. Mother of them all. LOWELL WICKWIRE Class History REMEMBER WHEN— Seven small, wide-eyed children entered kindergarten in September 19l|l. Miss Gilday's class consisted of Joseph De- selets, Robert Morton, Mildred Ottman, Shirley Porath, Rich- ard Shipway, Robert Spencer and Douglas VanDeweker. Each one's thoughts were: What lies ahead in this new life? First grade brought two more students, Alma Hayes and June Winne. • All of us were proud to learn the alphabet and to begin reading with Miss Edwards. With Miss Edwards as our teacher in second grade, Lowell Wickwire joined our group. What fun we had.' We moved to the next landing in third grade, with Miss Taugher. Eleven students greeted Mrs. LaBue in fourth grade, as Jean Leneker had become one of our classmates. In fifth grade our class increased to fourteen when Dawn Bogardus, Heidi Erchinger, and Phyllis Hoke became new members. We began to learn our country's geography. Thus, Mrs. Cole had her hands full. Sixth grade was one of our favorites as we moved to the third floor where the high school students were. One new pupil, in the form of Helen Stevens, greeted Mrs. Printzlau that year. With newcomers Flora and Florence Dubben, Claire Kanzler, Norman Morton and Herman Schmid to share our fun, we entered seventh grade with Mr. Rose as our homeroom teacher. This year marked two important events. One, we passed to classes carrying our textbooks. Two, we took the traditional sight- seeing trip to Albany. In eighth grade we studied earnestly for our first Regents. Miss Genovesi guided us that year. The next year was eagerly awaited as we were then, officially, in high school. We felt very important. Mr. Smith became our homeroom teacher. We welcomed Dawn Madsen and William Pukas in tenth grade. This was the year when we had our many, enviable class parties. In eleventh grade Mrs. Nielsen helped us through three wonderful events: we published our yearbook after much fun and hard work. In May, the Coronation Ball was presented. Dawn Bogardus became Queen in our ballroom, which was the auditorium in disguise. We received our coveted class rings that year. Our last year in school was shared with four newcomers— Jacqueline Bliss, Nancy Borchert, Arlene Hofmann, and John Empie. This made our senior class a total of twenty six. Twenty six young people to make their own marks in the big world. —June Winne c yog £ S£X£ TUAJA U MA ?3r mitts H0KS- 93X D01161 AS MWeWSAKSK • V' Juniors ROW I. R. Heyn; E. Wilson; L. Webster; C. TOURNAMENT This year, our team had the opportunity of playing In the Oneida Area Playoffs. Our first game, against Madison, was played in the Morris ville gymnasium. In this game, our boys came through with flying colors and went on to play Westmore- land for the Class C championship and South Otselic for the C-D championship. These last two games were played in the Huntington gym at Colgate University. We climbed three rungs on the Ladder of Success as we won these games; battling for the fourth rung, our tired but game team was stopped by Prank- fort. The rewards for the superb playing were three trophies, which will stand as evidence of this highly successful season for many years to come. Our team has been tops, thanks to the loyality of the team members, the never-ending support of the spectators and the unceasing effort of John Nostrant, who has been our coach for seven years. As a result of these combined efforts, this has been our first championship year since 1938.
