Mary Lake Challenge was an everyday oc- curance in the English department. At times, struggling through the symbolism of THE GRAPES OF WRA TH just didn't seem worth it, but Cliff Notes were there to get us back on the right track. Minority Literature students accepted the challenge to become fully involved by participating in a four-day field trip to Taos, New Mexico. For some, the real challenge was in Journalism, trying to write an article to meet the standards of the school newspaper. Many became prohcient speech writers and ora- tors after a semester with Miss Kar- en White. Mr. Robert Wells'desire for perfection in his drama students was fulHlled after many long and tedious hours of study and rehears- als. All that the English department had to offer-to dare us to try-we accepted, proving that we could surmount each obstacle as it came. Our goal was excellence, and we achieved it. s :egg is 'f'E. ..
