QENIOKCLASS, HISTQRY In tin year l95f.,'th1r1:y-four carefree students entered Cherokee Grade School with a desire to gain kno-.-.ledge that they would use all of their lives. 1.1-s. David was our first grade teacher, she dldpmuch in getting us settled and prepared to advance farther along. 1-ith her help we have been uhle to advance to higher education and higher ideal s. of the thirty-four that entered the first grade, twenty cf them completed their eight years of grade school together. We graduated from the eighth grade Lay f7L, 1945. itonita Lcliiell was Val- edictorian and Gracie lov-ell was Salutatorian. de had forty-four in the S!'adU5'h tion class. ' We began our high school in the fall of 1945 with fifty-three happy, green Freshmen. 4 Irvir. 1-'rar-ks was elected president, Clark Zldwerds-vice-president, Billy . blew-secretary, and kr. Andrea-sponsor. Our Sophomore year was interesting and the students had a lot of f'un.Dur- ing the year ve gained iiillye Garrett, Joram lliildinger, Llavis Humphrey, and Lary dtover. our officers were Clark Edwards-president, Donalu Van Coker-v:loe- president, Alma Edwards-secretary, and Ieina Bonto-reporter. 'Jie had a very successful play, Liss Ginger and gave the :Seniors a very nice Junior and senior banquet. Vie used the theme, A Southern Garden, different from previous mes. ,Lur sponsors that year. vere Ltr. andrea and hrs. itartin. Vie have been active in football, basketball, tennis, track, Girls Glee Club band, F.H.A., fine arts, au: many social activities. That class of fresh- MT 8 at 'Ti a1,e, - men, was the sophomores of l946 and 1947. I During the freshman year lynn Pollock was the capable class president.The Q ' year was started with Lira. Sanders and L3r.Tharp as sponsorsghowever, when they i left, Miss Gould took over the responsibility. Parties for that year included fl a hay rack ride to the river and a Halloween party. They were both enjoyed by M, 'Wg all, with the exception of the few vho had hay fever during the hay rack ride, 9 but everyone came out alive and happy.
